Udupi, Feb 26: The road work to Guddebettu in Moodubelle village had got stranded at halfway mark, and the balance work was never taken up. The villagers were determined to take strong action, and had told the media that they will boycott the panchayat election if the road is not completed. The fact that the villagers are incensed at being neglected, and a report on the sufferings they have been going through had been carried in an elaborate report published by Daijiworld recently.

Alerted by Daijiworld report, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon laid foundation stone for the construction of road leading to Guddebettu in Moodubelle on Tuesday, February 25. Mendon went to the spot, and laid the foundation stone of road development work between Lions Bhavan and Ankudru and till the residence of Nancy Martis in Kuntalanagara. The road development work till Ankudru and concrete road till Nany Martis house are being undertaken with a grant of Rs 25 lac each.

Speaking to Daijiworld Media on the occasion, Mendon said that he has laid foundation stone for several works to be undertaken within Belle gram panchayat limits on Tuesday and that two roads are being laid at a cost of about Rs 50 lac. "I have laid foundation stone for different works costing Rs 2.8 crore. We will complete the roads that are urgently needed by the people before April or May," he clarified.

On the villagers’ threat to boycott panchayat election if road works were not taken up, the MLA said that all the works cannot be undertaken at a stretch. "This constituency is big. Each of the legislators get Rs two crore every year out of local area development fund. We have also sought grant from different departments. Due to special package announced by Yediyurappa, we could get these works done. This work is promised to be completed before the onset of monsoon. I will inform the villagers of Guddebettu in detail when they meet me," he stated.
