Another nun levels sex abuse allegations against former bishop Franco Mulakkal

Kochi, Feb 21 (IANS): Another Kerala nun on Friday levelled grave allegations of sexual abuse against former Bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulakkal, who is already out on bail in a case of sexually assaulting a nun between 2014 and 2016.

The second nun's statement was given before the police as she is the 14th witness in the case against Mulakkal where he is now out on bail.

In her statement before the police she has said the bishop used to make video calls her on mobile and talk about sex.

She also said that once she was called before him at a convent in Kerala and he grossly misbehaved with her. The police has not registered a case over this allegation, as there is no complaint from the nun.

Mulakkal who was arrested on September 21, 2018 on rape charges, got bail on October 16, 2018.

The Kerala Police has filed a 1,400-page chargesheet against him.

The chargesheet names 83 witnesses, including the Cardinal of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church Mar George Alencherry, three bishops, 11 priests and several nuns.

After the case came to light, Mulakkal was removed as head of the Jalandhar diocese.

As i understand, Majority of bishops doesn't get marry & at the same time nuns are not allowed to marry per church rule, they stay together in the same premises. so no one can control the human desire... This is the main issue.

They never stay in the same premises.

No man stays in the premises used by the nuns.

This is the reason why the allegations of the nun did not make sense to the law enforcement folks.

The police has not registered a case over this allegation, as there is no complaint from the nun. No complain, only gossip?

The Kerala Police has filed a 1,400-page chargesheet against him. Number of pages does not prove anyone guilty or not-guilty.

The charge sheet names 83 witnesses, what did they witness to rape, phone calls?
On the one hand, people use religious titles and the followers worship them as gods or god's representatives.
No religion has God's representatives on earth. Let us not tolerate atrocities in the name of god and as the anointed ones. There are rotten apples everywhere.

We don't consider Bishops as relatives or close associates of God / Jesus. They are our spiritual leaders. We have enough education of stop all these. So your intent to run down the Bishop and the community is not right. The courts are there to judge the guilty.

I feel terribly sad for the man.

He has done no wrong. Police know that, the courts know that.

At the heart of it all is the loss of the election by a single nun who was the Superior of the entire congregation since the beginning (for about six years).

The new Superior obviously had her supporters.

But the nun (former Superior) who lost the election and her supporters did not want to obey the new Superior. The bishop - as the Spiritual Director of the congregation - ordered the rebellious group to obey the new Superior.

The defeated group started with the rape allegations against the bishop.

Why church is spending so much energy / time / money to save one person. If he has not done anything wrong and he is clean & righteous person then why do we need to bother so much, he will come out clean, leave it go God's hand, where is our faith ?

I am a very senior citizen and I have no right to condemn any one. Let the allegations against Bishop Franco Mulakkal be brought to light and proved and then only one has a right to comment. AS THE SAYING GOES A PERSON IS INNOCENT UNTIL HE IS PROVED GUILTY.

In any case it is a sad episode

Why Nuns have to complaint only against this Bishop? The sexual allegations itself are detrimental for the dignity of Church. Let law takes its own course but authorities must see that he doesn't flee the country.
