Mumbai, Feb 15: The Shiv Sena has hit pause on the felling of 310 trees on Friday for Metro Line 2 A between Dahisar and DN Nagar. The move was even supported by the BJP.

The civic administration has tabled several proposals to cut and transplant trees coming in the way of Metro Line 2 A, construction of which is already underway, at the Tree Authority meeting. At the Bangur Nagar station in Goregaon, 10 trees were proposed to be cut and three transplanted. A total of 159 trees were proposed to be cut and 151 transplanted.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena corporator and tree authority member, Yashwant Jadhav stated that the party has always been for preservation of the environment and has opposed cutting of trees in the name of the metro. Further, he claimed that there would be a discussion with the administration regarding the matter and a decision will be taken accordingly.

BJP corporator and tree authority member, Abhijeet Samant, said the Metro lines will benefit Mumbaikars and, therefore, they are in favour of it. “However, there was no discussion on the proposal,” he said.
