Puttur, Feb 13: The decomposed body of an unmarried youth was found lying inside an agricultural pond inside a farm at Kayarappu near Anadka in Shantigodu village, Puttur taluk, on the evening of Wednesday February 12.

The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath Naik (39), son of the late Babu Naik from Kayarappu.

Vishwanath was one of the five sons of Babu Naik. All his four brothers have been following different vocations and living separately. Vishwanath lived alone in the ancestral house, and was conducting agricultural activities of the family.

The farm of Vishwanath has a pond that looks like a tunnel. On Wednesday, a Mescom employee working in Anadka limits visited Vishwanath’s house on some purpose. He noticed that there was foul odour and Vishwanath was not at home. He followed the source of the smell and found the body of Naik inside the pond. He thereafter informed the Puttur police.

Puttur town police along with fire brigade reached the spot, arranged to bring the body out, and carried the body to the mortuary of the government hospital at Puttur.

The pond in the farm is like narrow tunnel. It is felt that Vishwanath would have slipped and fallen into water either when repairing the pump or doing something else. On the basis of complaint made by Rohithaksha, brother of the deceased, Puttur town police have registered a case.
