Mangaluru, Jan 22: A press conference regarding Catholic Maha Samavesha - 2020 which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 2 in the premises of Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar, was organized in the city on Wednesday, January, 22

Addressing the media, Rolphy D’Costa, president, Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, said, “With the motive of bringing Catholic youth, women leaders and religious persons under one roof, we are organizing this Maha Samavesha. The conference will hold discussions on our community’s position in society, the issues, problems faced by our community members as well as solutions for the same. At the same time, the Samavesha also will discuss the issues faced by Catholic youth in current society and the need for their active participation in bureaucracy, governmental sectors and political leadership."Through this conference, we will also be demanding an independent Christian Development Corporation and Rs 500 crore funding for the development of the community. We will also demand government holiday on September 8, on the occasion of nativity feast which is celebrated across coastal Karnataka," it was disclosed.

“We are expecting over 25,000 delegates from various corners of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod. Ronald Colaco, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist, and Dr Harsha, IPS, commissioner of police, Mangaluru will grace the event. Ronald Fernandes, member, Karnataka State Public Service Commission and Lydia Lobo will participate in the event as resource persons. The Samavesha will start at sharp 9 am and it will conclude at 3.30 pm,” he said.

“Various committees are formed for the success of this event. An exclusive office has been opened for the purpose of Samavesha at Madanthyar church. We are expecting delegates in large numbers. We are doing all arrangements to help delegates and in making this Samavesha a memorable one,” he added.

Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop, Mangaluru diocese, will inaugurate the Samavesha. Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhi, bishop of Beltangady Syro Malabar diocese will deliver the key note address. Dr Geevarghese Mar Divannasios, bishop of Puttur Syro Malankara diocese will bless the event," he said.

Catholic Sabha Mangaluru Pradesh, Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Diocesan Christian Councils of Catholic Women (DCCW) are the organizers of the event while diocese of Mangaluru, Syro Malabar diocese, Beltangady, Syro Malankara diocese, Puttur are the joint organizers.

Fr Mathew Vas, director, Catholic Sabha, Fr Ronald D’Souza, director, ICYM, Fr Stany Pinto, assistant parish priest, Madanthyar parish, Fr Francis D’Souza, director, Catholic Women's Wing, Tressy Pais, president, DCCW, Lancy D’Cunha, president, AICU, Leon Saldanha, president, ICYM, Joel Mendonca, convenor, and Elias Fernandes, media advisor, L J Fernandes, secretary, FUDAAR Prathistan were present.
