Mangaluru, Dec 15: Chaos prevailed near the Talapady tollgate here on Sunday December 15 with FASTag becoming mandatory for vehicles. Private bus personnel had heated verbal arguments with the tollgate staff over the issue.

Several buses ply from Talapady to Mangaluru via the tollgate. City buses, which have to maintain their timings strictly are in trouble because of the new rule. As only one counter has been opened for this purpose, there was a huge queue near the tollgate on Sunday.

The city bus personnel pressured the tollgate staff to open one more counter. They also questioned that if the situation was so chaotic on Sunday, a general holiday, what would it be on other days of the week when there is rush.

The private city buses which used to ply till the Talapady bus stop past the tollgate are now taking a detour, turning before the tollgate and not going to the earlier final stop due to the delay that is taking place in the FASTag lane of the toll gate. Passengers are in a quandary as they need to walk a distance of one km in order to board the bus to Mangaluru.

Private city bus personnel are adamant that they will not take the bus through the Talapady tollgate till the tollgate staff provides a separate lane for the private buses or an additional counter for FASTag.

The passengers travelling to far off places like Kasargod and Kerala are also facing difficulties as the buses are standing for a long time in queue at the Talapady tollgate.

Government has introduced Fast Tag system and made it mandatory all over the country effective from 15.12.2019 just to avoid delay in cash transaction at Toll Gates and to make the journey hassle free. But before implementing concerned authorities should have taken the stock of the situation creating at the time of implementation in the beginning.Which authorities didn't do it.Now authorities should feel the brunt of the situations created at the Toll Gates across the country.Unless the issue has been addressed immediately by the concerned authorities, situation might aggravate and there will always be a chaos and argument with Toll Gates staff

Before introducing this FASTag, the concerned authorities should have the pros. and cons. of this. Now for example of this Talapady tollgate, there is I believe only one lane and hence all bus drivers who have to keep up the schedule are agitated. In fact all other drivers are having the same problem. I am from New York, there are more EASYPASS and they have one or two lanes for other drivers and the rest is for all EASYPASS holders. How do you like it? Here only big talks but no action.

I am not bothered as I have full faith in our PM chaiwala. We will give him 70 years and then question about GDP, unemployment, non-functioning of central govt departments like NHAI, unncessary collection of toll and pathetic road conditions.

It is not fair to ask results in just 6 years..

Collection of Toll is a big mess. NHAI and government is least bothered about peoples woes. That too collection of tolls without completion of the job and the job too is of substandard quality! We are more aligned to religion agenda than demanding proper road structure.

Fasttag lanes are supposed to have quick dispersal system such as electronic digital tag readers. The gate is to be opened once the vehicle passes nearby ten feet or so of the gate . This is not happening so all the commotion. The tag system is useless if everything is not in place.
