Bantwal, Dec 3: There were complaints by locals that waste left out to low Agalaguri area by a factory operating in Ira and Chelur villages here causes environment pollution. Therefore, a team of government officials visited the spot on Monday, November 2, and asked the factory to suspend operations.

The drain water left out by the factory that manufactures dog food from chicken waste has reportedly an unbearable stink. The villagers had complained to the state health minister and concerned officials that the stink makes them unable to remain at homes.

Bantwal tahsildar Rashmi S R, taluk health officer Dr Deepa Prabhu, Sajipapadu panchayat development officer Shwetha and village accountant Prakash visited the spot and conducted inspection asking the factory not to continue operations.

“The proprietor had obtained permission to run the factory from state pollution control board in Baikampady and gram panchayat but not adhered to the condition that waste water should not be let out without purification. Therefore, officials have visited the spot after public complaints and after verification, the factory has been asked to stop operations,” said the tahsildar.

District health officer Dr Deepa Prabhu who visited the spot after asking for suggestions from local gram panchayat health department, if there are problems from factory waste said that the report will be submitted to the local administration.
