Bengaluru: Sylvian Noronha elected as FKCA president

Bengaluru, Nov 11: Sylvian Noronha has been elected as the new chairman of Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA). 

The new governing council body was elected during the General Body meeting of FKCA on Sunday, November 10 at Konkan Bhavan, Mathikere in Bengaluru. 

The meeting started with a prayer by Fr Faustine Lobo, who also is the spiritual director of FKCA. The outgoing chairman Dr Edward D’Souza thanked his council members who worked with him during his term, specially the general secretary Lawrence Saldanha and the treasurer Anup Saldanha for their support, the spiritual director Fr Faustine Lobo and all the members of the Federation.

 

Dr Edward whose term came to an end in October 2019, formally dissolved the incumbent council and welcomed Anil Rego, a well known entrepreneur and philanthropist to become the election returning officer and take forward the election procedure. As there were no nominations received for the different council posts, a resolution was passed by the General Body of FKCA, that the new Council shall be nominated and elected by the General Body itself, which happens to be the supreme body.

 

Anil Rego passed the motion in the presence of the General Body, for nominating members for the posts in the Council of FKCA. The General Body elected the following members unanimously, into the governing council for the year 2019-20: 

Chairman – Sylvian Noronha 

Vice Chairman 1 – Sylvester D’Souza 

Vice Chairman 2 – Dilraj Sequeira 

General Secretary – Anthony Gonsalves 

Treasurer – Noel Sequeira 

Joint Secretary 1 – Salvador Periera 

Joint Secretary 2 – Michael D’Souza 

Cultural Secretary – Clemence D’Silva 

Legal Advisor – Richard Sequeira 

Imm. Past Chairman – Dr Anand Edward D’Souza 

Imm. Past General Secretary – Lawrence Saldanha. 

Fr Faustine Lobo consented to continue as spiritual director for the forthcoming term. The outgoing chairman Dr Edward D’Souza congratulated and welcomed the new chairman Sylvian Noronha. The outgoing general secretary Lawrence Saldanha welcomed his successor Anthony Gonsalves, while the newly elected treasurer Noel Sequeira was welcomed by his predecessor Anup Saldanha. 

The new chairman Sylvian in his welcome address thanked the election officer Anil Rego and thanked the past council headed by Dr Edward for the programmes carried out during his tenure. Sylvian assured the members present that he’ll put his best efforts, to carry forward the legacy of FKCA and shoulder the responsibilities given to him worthily. He urged the past chairmen and all the member associations to support him and his team at FKCA, in the forthcoming term. 

Irene D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and specially thanked the Rego family and KCA Mathikere Association for providing the election meeting venue and other arrangements made by them at Konkan Bhavan, Mathikere.
