Most Czechs think Brexit detrimental to the country: Poll

Prague, Oct 17 (IANS): About 67 per cent of Czechs consider Brexit will be detrimental to their country, according to an opinion poll released by the newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD).

The poll released on Wednesday, conducted from late September to early October, shows that almost three-fifths of the Czechs wish the UK would stay in the European Union (EU), while 12 per cent would support its leaving, and one-fifth have no opinion, Xinhua news agency reported.

More than 70 per cent of Czechs are interested in the events surrounding Brexit, MfD writes.

More than a half of Czechs think that the UK is responsible for the complications surrounding its withdrawal from the EU, with less than one-fifth thinking the EU is to blame.

Britain and the EU are rushing against the clock to lock down a Brexit deal ahead of the coming key EU summit. Britain is scheduled to leave the EU on October 31, and the European leaders' summit starting on Thursday is seen as the last chance to agree any deal before that deadline.
