Panaji, Sep 14: The Goa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union has decided to distribute steel cans to farmers to enhance cleanliness in the milk collection process. The proposed steel cans will be distributed by chief minister Pramod Sawant and cooperatives minister, Govind Gaude in the farmers meet organised on Monday at Ponda.

Many of the farmers have been using plastic cans to supply milk to dairy collection centres across the state.

“Initially, we will distribute the 10 litre steel cans to only 4500 farmers during the Monday programme and the remaining farmers will get it later. “Goa Dairy has 8650 farmers supplying milk to it,” Vilas Naik, Goa Dairy administrator, said as reported in TOI.

He also added that the farmers who have signed an agreement with the Union government for the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) will get the cans on Monday. “About 165 rural milk collection societies across the state are already members of the dairy,” he said.
