Cauvery water not available for 2 days as BWSSB carries out electrical refurbishment

Bengaluru, Jul 19: The drought situation is already felt in so many cities of the country following shift in the trend of monsoons.

The situation is now getting tensed in the city of Bengaluru, as on coming Sunday and Monday Cauvery water supply will not be available. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) is carrying out substantial electrical works to ensure uninterrupted power supply to its pumping stations.

A BWSSB senior engineer stated that it was replacing the 220 KV metering current transformer and potential transformer for refurbishing the surge protector. The replacement will end up causing disruption of water across all different stages and phases of the city.

The pumping stations around Torekadanahalli, Harohalli and Tataguni, will cease to function between 8.00 am and 2.00 am on Sunday and Monday. These are those vital areas where the Cauvery water is treated and filtered and then pumped into the city.

Carrying out this work is necessary for BWSSB as the replacement of the required electrical installations will prevent glitches in power supply to the pumps. Although the city will not suffer, the areas on the outskirts will face the impact.
