Bengaluru, Jun 12: The state government has planned to add 1,117 km of new roads in the coming days to herald communication revolution in the state. However, the users of all these roads will have to pay for using the road by way of toll fee.

As per a government order issued in 2011, it has been decided to continue to charge users fee on state highways. The above roads would be built with the coming together of state highways authority, Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project (KSHIP), and road development corporation, at a cost of Rs 25,800 crore. This was stated by PWD minister, H D Revanna, at a press met he addressed after participating in the department progress review meeting headed by chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, on Tuesday June 11.

"The National Highways Authority of India has given its nod for building 3,600 km of road at a cost of Rs 37,000 crore in the state. Tender process has been completed and work has started. We have sent proposal for an additional 6,572 km of road to the central government," he said.

The government also has plans to provide permanent relief to people who have to pass Shiradi ghat road which creates problems often during the monsoon months. It plans to build a 26 km long tunnel for which a detailed project report envisaging expenses of Rs 1,200 crore has been prepared, Revanna stated.
