Mangaluru: Airport Authority to hand over six airports to Adani Enterprises

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jun 8: Adani Enterprises is likely to receive the contract for running six airports in the country. This contract will also include Mangaluru, and is likely to begin in July.

Adani Enterprises had earlier bid to run six Indian airports before the election. However, there was a lot of delay in procedures and paperwork by the government as a result of election. As per the aviation ministry, the contract will receive approval by the cabinet in July. The corporate giant will then be ready to take over the business from July itself.

In November last year, the government approved a proposal for managing six AAI (Airports Authority of India) run airports on a public-private partnership basis. The government had received 32 technical bids from ten companies. Adani won the bid for running six airports for the next 50 years. As per the ministry, with the privatization of Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru airports, the AAI will receive Rs 1,300 crore per year. The amount received will be utilized for the development of other airports in India.

The ministry further clarified that employees of the new privatized airports can either join the Adani Enterprises or can continue as AAI staffs.

Speaking to Daijiworld, a senior staff of Mangaluru International Airport said, "We are opposing the privatization of the airport. The authorities have not yet given clear instructions on our employment. Even the higher officials of AAI do not have a clear idea about what will happen. Over 90 percent of employees here are not in the favour of privatization. They are aware that once it goes private, there will be a lot of changes. A lot would depend on their business setup. There are chances they would reduce pay scale or even downsize. In the corporate world, local interests are not prioritized. It would purely run as a corporate entity."

Do u have thousands of crores to invest and employee crores of people, to support their families? You are also welcome to bid in govt projects if you are capable to handle and invest so much money. It's a high-risk project one can make money also and lose money also. Go to the place called Mundra in Kutch Gujarat to see how Adani transformed a small village to multi crores city (port city). The farmers are crorepatis even without doing any farming.

First thing I want to see those rowdy taxi drivers kicked out from Mangalore airport.

Mixed economy, where in both Public and Private sectors were allowed to compete with each other for healthy competition and was the brain child of Nehru.
However the concept was abused several times since then. Indiraji, Nationalised the whole banking system and today we cry for monopoly of Nationalised banks, crushed under NPA! Similarly, profit making Public sectors were tortured o accommodate cronies Private sector. Air India during UPA regime, now ED is grilling Praful Patel s just an example....

I hope they will deal with the arrogant taxi mafia doing dada giri at the arrival. Despite Mangaluru becoming an international airport, the section of the road near arrival is literally taken over by goondas running taxi mafia and no law or authority seems to have any control over them. I suspect even police have some kind of hafta in it. It is depressing to see their behavior as soon as you land in the country, shouting, swearing and blocking other cars.

Privatizations were lead to progress in infrastructure. Yes..!! there will chance of cost cutting by reducing manpower.
On same time, better to privatize the Panchayath, Taluk & all government department in order to get the benefit of our tax money. Because usually we have to roam these department 6-10 time to get any approval or benefit. Because most of them are waiting for bribe & if we unable to pay bribe, surely it will take 2-6 month to get any approval.
Privatization should be done on ground level aspects. Because even by paying service fee to privative companies, there is surety of work done in time frame.
If we see the toll gate employees in our costal area, its really horrible. That area is fully polluted by carbon dioxide & other gasses. Also they don't have proper closed shelter to collect tolls. Which will lead for serious health issues. Now where is this human rights..??

None of the people from the twin district should question any move by the teamaker now.
All those who voted for BJP have told that they are voting for Modi and not local MPs.
Just open your eyes and see, all business is being given to Gujratis.
Now what is left is frying pakoda and selling tea.

Does anyone know what country's citizenship this Adani holds?

It has been reported that his holding companies are in various tax-haven countries.

When holding companies are abroad, there is a likelihood no tax is paid in India.
