Udupi, May 5: The Hoode branch of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind built a good quality house and donated the same to a poor Dalit, Bhaskara, who was living in a dilapidated house in Padukudru of Tonse village.

In a simple programme, that was held on Saturday, May 4, the key of the new house was handed over to Bhaskara by Janab Akbar Ali, member of state advisory committee of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. Out of the total cost of Rs 5,92,000 for the house, Jamaat -e-Islami Hind contributed Rs 4,42,000 and an aid of Rs 1,50,000 was given by the government under its housing scheme.

Speaking after handing over the house to the beneficiary Bhaskara, Akbar Ali said, "This deed is part of the faith in the almighty. Humanity is nothing but helping one another in the society and fulfilling their needs."

Janardhan Tonse, member of zilla panchayat appreciated the social service done by Jamaat-e-Islami and said that they have not built a house just for the sake of building it but have got a quality house constructed for the beneficiary. This is a model for all that needs to be followed.

Shyamaraj Birti, district convener of committee for Oppressed Dalits said, " Jamaat-e-Islami has reached the lowest person in the society through their noble deed. This is the real worship and not donating golden crown to the God in temples."

Jamaat-e-Islami Hoode branch has involved itself continuously in social welfare works. So far it has handed over six houses to the financially poor people including this house. In addition, it has given partial contribution in building houses in the locality, bearing the medical expenses of poor sick people, blood donation, cleanliness drive, sponsoring education, public development work and other social service related activities.

Sulochana, member of taluk panchayat and Gururaj Rao, member of local panchayat extended her greetings on the occasion.

Nihal Saheb Kidiyoor, state president of SIO, Abdul Khadir, local president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mohammad Marakada of Humanitarian Relief Society, Panchayat members Genevive Pinto, Venkatesh Kunder, Ashfaq Hoode, Sridhar, former president Jyoti Lewis, former vice president Sadiq Hoode, activists of the Jamaat, the family members of beneficiary Bhaskara and other eminent persons of the locality were present.
