Mangalore, Mar 19: In connection with indulging in rampage in a banana plantation belonging to Babbukatte Nityadhar Church and trying to disrupt peace in the region, Ullal policemen arrested seven persons on Wednesday March 18.

They are Jayson Verghese (23), Vijit Sunny Rozario (21), Araki Alfred (20), Roshan Cutinho (26), all from Nityadhar Nagar and Ronald Roshan (22), a resident of Kuttar Prakash Nagar. They were produced in the court on Wednesday.

On Monday morning, the banana plantation was found to have been damaged heavily to look as if people belonging to a particular community had barged into the plantation, and a saffron flag had been planted there, signifying that Hindu outfits had been involved with the destruction. The incident took place at a time when Hindu Samajotsav was being organized in the city.

The policemen said that during interrogation, the arrested persons revealed, they wanted to disturb the peace in the region by projecting the incident as a handiwork of a particular community.

Banana Plantation that was damaged

While making inquiries about those who inflicted the above damage, the policemen could by chance, lay their hands on the two accused, who had burnt down a motor bike on November 30 near Pandit House. Joy D'Souza (20) and Calvin Johnson D'Souza, from Nityadhar Nagar, accused of this act, were arrested and produced in the court on Wednesday. The policemen are also looking at the possibility of these two having been also involved with the destruction of the banana plantation.

Under the guidance of the city rural inspector Lingappa Poojary, Ullal sub-inspector of police Shivprakash has been conducting investigation.

This is a matter of the Indian Law to take its course. When a Church is attacked, the entire Christian community blames India and Hindus. So Indian law must take its course and find out the real truth and give exemplary punishment - who so ever it may be.

Mangaloreans are always peace loving people. Some vested interests are deliberately trying to create tension between the religions. There is a proverb in Kannada " Kannare kandaru parambarisi noda beku". We should not jump to the conclusion without knowing the full facts. Mangalore Police have done good job in nailing the culprits. Kudos to Daijiworld for publishing this news. Such unscrupulous elements should be brought to books and severely punished.

This is Journalists practicing real Secularism. I like the title. It is very encouraging to see how the Church and Christian community in general (except instances like Kandhamal ..ban DaVinci etc) is handling weeds within itself - be it homosexuality or paedophilia or sexual abuse of women. There was no fatwa issued...and the issue handled head on. BRAVO! I hope the heads of other religions and other newspaper learn something from this act of Daijiworld. CNN-IBN, NDTV , Times of India , The Hindu should hang their heads in shame.

After a very very long time I'm reading a news item which is so honestly presented in such a daring way.Not only the news, even the caption "Weeds within" was so appropriate and telling! A paper run by a Christian person/Organisation putting out a news item which is so damaging to their own ilk,not only shows courage but also proves what is meant by calling "journalism" as a sacred profession! Perhaps news of this kind may bring-in greater understanding among communities! I wish this particular news story was made as a "Case Study" to the Journalism Colleges. If he were in Mumbai in 1992 as well, may be he could remember the gala time his friends had. A few miles further north lies Gujarat - 2002 also showcased the peace loving nature of M.Bhat and co. But since no one trusts police & home ministry's version these days and there is no one to speak their side of stories unlike we heard in church or pub attack, it will be prudent to hear their side of the story from their words and then come to a fair conclusion.

If a place of worship is attacked or desecrated by some members of the same religion or community the severity of the crime does not change in any way, in fact it is even more serious. Attacking places of worship for inciting communal hatred is a heinous crime and the perpetrators of these crimes should be strictly punished regardless of their religious or political affiliation. However, our local police appear to be very ive in apprehending and punishing the perpetrators of such above noted offences.

Mr Yogeesh your words are right. This is how public detestation begins between communities, people from same group of people doing something wrong only to blame other communities & many of our intelligent people think that it's a achievement of other community thereby we trying to protest aggressively. If you go for Kapu incident or Puttur incident also looks same. The victims are from minority communities. Now victims were caught by police otherwise politician will blame to Ramasane/BD/hindu yuva sene. They are the culprits. Thanks to Daiji you are doing a great job keep doing. This will help to people how world is ……..

People pass any sort of comments, without knowing the real truth. Some of you comment that these boys are framed, some say they are the real culprits. Do any one have any proof taht who is actually responsible for this act? Keep any community outside the purview of your comments. You can't blame any community whether Christian, Hindu or Muslim. It is a very serious matter. One must show restraint before blaming any community. Crime has no religion. Tk you

Shame on you guys. You ought to be punished suitably for what you have done. In the days when you are supposed to work and earn a living, you are resorting to destructive methods. You people are nothing less than terrorists, today you have damaged your own house and nature. What will you people get by trying to prove that Hindus or Muslims have damaged the property? Will you get peace? Instead, you could have helped your friends of other communities understand that we are all humans and religion or faith shouldn’t separate us and that we should live in peace and harmony for the benefit and well being of each other.

And all of you who say they have been framed, they have been paid to do so or they have been hired, it is our responsibility to teach our fellow brethren to live in harmony. If we have been responsible enough to do this, this wouldn’t have happened. No one would have taken money to ruin his own house. Wake up folks, blaming each other or framing each other wouldn’t help. Take no revenge, because it brings only more pain. Help each one of your friends and neighbors lead the way of love and kindness.
