Mangalore: Youth Throng Job Fair in Large Numbers on First Day

Mangalore, Feb 20: The employment fair conducted by the employment and training department, saw a rush of job-seekers on Friday February 20, the first day of the event. Youths holding certificates in their hands, crowded around the employers in the hopes of securing their future.

More than 30 companies are participating in the two-day event currently on at TMA Pai Convention Hall. Most of the employers are offering technical jobs for those with qualifications ranging from SSLC to ITI diplomas to graduate degrees in engineering and other technical courses.  

“We expect about 10,000 youths and we are sure that most of them will find jobs based on their eligibility”, said Ramesh Zalaki, commissioner, employment and training department.  

“The government has given importance to providing jobs for youth with adequate training. Hence, the department has named it as “Skill Development and Job Fair”, he said.   

Most of the companies participating in the fair are private enterprises from the construction, insurance, and security sectors. Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) is also at the fair in search of candidates with ITI diplomas for apprentice training.

The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) is another participant which is looking for job-seekers with ITI, diplomas or graduate degrees in engineering for apprentice training at the establishment.

“The employers have collected our certificates and we wrote the exams. We are sure that they will call us for jobs”, said Anitha, Vamanjoor, a diploma holder. 

Infosys, ICICI, Bharathi Axa, Manpower Consultancy, Eureka Forbes, Raxa Security, and NIIT, are all participating in the job fair. 

“The companies here have limited vacancies and salary packages are very less”, said Manoj, an ITI certificate holder from Gurupur. 

At least 4,000 people registered till afternoon on the first day of the fair and many participated in written exams and interviews. An equal number of girls and boys were found to have registered.

    I have a doubt.is this is longlasting? or is it stops after the parlimentary elections???? we can't trust BJP.Out of 4000 peoples when 100 people getting their jobs parliamentary elections will be over. and BJP Achive their target of youth votes. Public please be careful.

    Some people feel that BJP is doing only this kind of employement drive !!! It is wrong and other parties have done this and even better than this. Recently BJP has used a different way of employment !!!! That is by using unemployed for goondagiri!!!! Really this kind of employment drive is adopted only in BJP tenure. Hat's off to you !!!!! Jai Hind.

    Good move Well done! job seekers will benefit from your good gesture it is nice to hear that Mangalore is progressing in right direction & securing the future at the right AGE. But one thing it should not go like BIHAR - LALU ,Sons of the soil should get first preference in job as we dont want any RAJ to raise the voice in KARNATAKA.

    MR.Ramesh just because BJP is in power dont think they are the architects of the present situation. All credit should go to MR.Kumaraswamy under whose leadership all these works were initiated. And blaming other parties wont help because BJP are no angels too. The number of incidents witnessed during these few months of their tenure have not taken place for the past 60yrs. Small incidents might have taken palce but not of such great magnitude. Babri Masjid demolition was a work of whom??????? Was it Congress or JD (S) or CPM or any other??? No it was your very own BJP whom you'll consider as angels but infact are the architects of not modern India but of corrupt India and I feel sad to day that because I am an Indian, a country which has a rich heritage, but a party like BJP has put it into the gutter.sorry for using such terms but thats the truth.

    Good move. Sons of the soil will get first preference this way. Job seekers should not expect or ask for the sky (wages). What is needed most now is experience and hard work. Dhirubhai Ambani carried bales of cotton and yarn on his head to build the business empire we see today.

    This is alarming, lots of unemployed youths and if they didn't find any suitable job of their caliber they might be exploited, so government has to look into this matter very seriously, instead of allotting money for some projects just to create vote bank, government should create more jobs.

    Definitely a good move. Appreciate the lead taken by various authorities. However I wonder experience I had almost a decade ago does not get repeated. Initially some Govt/Givt controlled organisation offered a decent paying job and later the officials in that company started asking for petty cash (just Rs 10-50 per table in those days) to hand the joining letters. They will just call you to their desk for some talk and ask in plain straight language that they need money for tea. I hope there is transparency in ing suitable candidates irrespective of Caste/Sex/Social Background.

    It is definitely a good move from the government in providing jobs for youth with adequate training. As reported the offered salary packages may not be attractive but it is better to keep the youth enganged rather than keeping them idle. Normally after completion of the apprentice training, the company will absorb some of them. Even otherwise whatever the experience gained by them will help them to find a job elsewhere. Instead of giving a dole for unemployment, give them a job to secure their future.
