Udupi, Mar 15: A gulf-based employee on vacation on a bike fell in a ditch meant for construction of bridge at Kallapu, Katpady and sustained serious injuries. The negligence of the contractor of bridge construction at Katpady is said to be the reason for the mishap. Dinesh Shetty (35), resident of Achada cross, Katpady was the victim of the accident.

A bridge is being constructed on old MBC road here. Demolishing the old bridge and removing old pillars is in progress. Though the upper portion of the bridge is demolished, the contractors had not made arrangements for road block.

Only coconut tree leaves were kept across the road. The bike rider who came without knowing that there is a ditch came from Katpady, hit the coconut lumber and fell in the ditch of the bridge. The rod of the demolished old bridge pierced in his ribs, breaking them. He had come recently from the gulf for the house warming of his new house.

Local people have expressed anguish against Kundapur based contractor who failed to make suitable arrangements to prevent accidents. They have urged police and district administration for suitable action against the concerned people.
