Kasargod, Jan 22: A man who made a python to spit out a few chicks it had gulped down, has now got a court notice. The man who has been served with this notice happens to be Mohammed, a snake catcher from the region.
A python had sneaked into a coop inside the house of a family living at Chattanchal in the district. The reptile had also swallowed a number of chicks found therein. The family thereafter had sought assistance of Mohammed, a resident of Aramangana, who is an expert in catching snakes.
Mohammed had succeeded in catching hold of the python. He also had compelled the python to spit out the chicks. This scene was captured on mobile by someone, and this video clip was posted in social website.
General secretary of Animal Legal Force Integration, Angel Nair, who came across this video footage, had filed a petition in the high court, claiming this to be illegal and inhuman. The court has served notice to the person involved and also the forest department about this incident.
As forest department does not have the post of snake catcher, it had permitted Mohammed, who has expertise in the field, to attend to complaints of snakes entering households.
