Who should be India's PM, decisive or maverick leader, asks Jaitley

New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS): Highlighting the achievements of the Narendra Modi government, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said Indians need a "decisive leadership" to help economic growth and not "an unworkable alliance with maverick leadership".

Noting that India with a 7 to 7.5 per cent growth rate is the fastest-growing major economy in the world and the government is trying to break the 8 per cent barrier, Jaitley in a Facebook post said it is an indication of what social profile, purchasing power and quality of life Indians are going to have in the decades to come.

"To ensure that this happens as projected, it is a pre-requisite that India has a decisive leadership, consistency in policy direction and a strong and stable government. An unworkable alliance with maverick leadership whose longevity is a suspect can never achieve this," he said.

In his post, "Political stability, Decisive Leadership and a Clear Mandate - Their Relationship with Growth", Jaitley said the Ease of Doing Business rankings for five years have improved from 142nd to 77th position, and India is now aiming to be in the first 50.

Taking a dig at the Grand Alliance of the opposition led by the Congress, he said their leadership would be constrained by the aspirations of its alliance partners.

"Who should be India's Prime Minister, if India were to achieve this? Should he/ she be constrained by his/ her rival aspirants who have reluctantly supported him/ her out of mere dislike for a common opponent, or does India need a Prime Minister with a clear mandate as in 2014? Only such a Prime Minister can deliver growth and satisfy the nation's aspirations," he said.

The Minister said the average GDP growth rate of 7.3 per cent during the five years of Prime Minister Modi is on a much larger base than that of his predecessors. The higher growth rate on a larger base has a multiplier effect, he said.

"When Prime Minister Modi came to power, India was the 10th-largest economy in GDP terms in the world. Presently, the fifth, sixth and seventh economies, namely United Kingdom, France and India, are within a very narrow range.

"A marginal fluctuation of currency values alters the size of the economies. India, of course, is projected to grow next year at 7.5%. This will conclusively ensure that India, at the end of the next financial year, could possibly be the fifth-largest economy in the world," he said.

Jaitley also said the McKinsey Institute reported that the size of India's middle-class is growing very fast, from 14 per cent in 2005 to 29 per cent in 2015. It is estimated to go all the way to 44 per cent in 2025.

With the kind of transfer of resources to rural India which have been made in the past five years, a huge aspirational class is emerging even in the rural areas, he added.

    Rightly described by Jaitley!
At present we have a Maverick PM who doesn't ask others when decisions need to be taken & breaks the back of the Nation with destructive DeMonetisation & hasty Gabbar Singh Tax.
He can't even face our own Press or go through JPC for Rafale Scam.
According to CAG report on Telecom a bigger scam is unraveling than alleged 2G- beneficiary is as usual his suit boot friend for whom he appeared in Full Page Advertisement in all news papers & TVs, NO Media is covering this till today!
India is better off without this hot head & with a weaker government at center all democratic institutions are safer. We want Freedom & not Subjugating Ideology Enforcer as PM.

The future Prime Minister of India should be qualified who can proudly present his own degree. Narendra Modi calls himself a fakir wears Rs 10 lakh on a suit and spent more than 70 lakhs on clothing. But former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica actually lives like one.

Over the last 4.5 years, the prime minister has visited 83 countries, but the small South American country of Uruguay has not been one of them. Had Modi visited Uruguay during the first year or so of his tenure, he might have had the opportunity to meet its former president, Jose ‘Pepe’ Mujica, a man who many have called “South America’s Gandhian president.”
The nations prime minister should be the one who respects the values of constitutional freedom, who should have the dignity of his own not the one who follows the social media trend who praise the journalist Gauri Lankesh murder.
The nations PM should be the one live the dead soul in 'Smashan, Kabristan' to live in peace. At least have the courtesy to stand with 'lynching' victims instead of garlanding ministers from his cabinet.

The one who respects the value of soldiers patrolling the borders, farmers who tend to feed the nation, labors sweat to send money from abroad, jobless educated youth with CV in hand looking for work, a mother who saved money for her 'beti' wedding is protected, a retired civil servant whose pension is safe in banks and so on.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has abruptly left for the US for treatment of his kidney ailment. The man who doesn't believe in 'Yoga' for better health now seeking medical help from abroad. He should better repentance for representing for Union Carbide for United States owner in 'Bhopal Gas' tragedy that left more than 5000 peoples dead and to date many victims living with blindness and children's born with abnormalities.

Next time PM Modiji should bring constitutional amendment.. Single largest party should form government if it has more than 30% seats. We are multi party system so winning 50% seats doesn't make sense. Same thing should be applicable to PM chair also...

I hope most of the people agree with that!
