Mangaluru: Thirteenth graduation ceremony held at SJEC

Mangaluru, Nov 9: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) held its 13th graduation day with a colourful ceremony at the college premises at Vamanjoor here on Friday, November 9.

Addressing the gathering, bishop of Mangaluru diocese and president of SJEC, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said, "I congratulate all the graduates. This great institution has given direction to many young students who acquired jobs in their respective fields. The motto of this college is service and excellence. Service demands sacrifice and excellence demands generosity.



“Always be dedicated towards your studies. That will help you achieve your aim. We need great minds to think to reach great heights. You have that caliber. Mind should be fed with ideas, hands should be fed with skills and heart should be fed with values. Develop the attitude of being kind and tender when you meet people, do not lose your temper, and be calm and composed. This institution has given you a lot and has helped you in giving you a new personality,” he said.

Glen A L D Souza, employee relations head, General Electric, South Asia, said, "Today, you celebrate for successfully completing your accomplishment. You need to be proud of yourself for working so hard and imbibing right knowledge to take a plunge in the unsettled world.

“Graduation day is an ending of an era of student life and entering the sea of corporate world. You are the leader, doer and achiever, you need to be leader in your own way and do not be a follower. I wish all the best for your future endeavors,” he said.

Former secretary DD R & D and chairman DRDO, Professor IIT Madras Dr S Christopher said, "I congratulate all the graduates. Knowledge is like a gold coin given to you and it is your responsibility to use it appropriately and invest in a right way. We need to achieve our goals by our efforts, planning and hardwork and need to remain
focused.”

Principal SJEC Dr Rio D’Souza administered the oath taking ceremony for the graduates.

Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha felicitated Dr S Christopher and Glen A L D Souza.

As many as 641 graduates recieved their degrees, among which were Mechanical (179), MBA (51), MCA (30), Civil (63), Computer Science (141), Electrical and Communication (112), Electric and Electricals (63), and PHD (2).

Seven graduates were awarded with gold medals namely Sharon Ancita Lobo (MBA) Prarthana K (MCA) Naveen Fernandes (Mechanical) Chaithra S Shetty (Civil) Ashmine D Souza (Computer Science), Chethan Pinto (Electrical and Communication) and Prathiksha (Electric and Electricals).

Director St Joseph Engineering College Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza welcomed the gathering, convener of graduation day ceremony Smitha George rendered the vote of thanks.

Flona Shawn Soans and Jeevan Lawrence compered the programme.

Principal SJEC Dr Rio D’Souza, assistant director SJEC Fr Rohith D’Costa and others were present.
