Kundapur: ANF Intensifies Patrolling After Naxals Threaten Forester

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Nov 6: Reportedly, a gang of eight naxals approached forester Narayan Naik, a resident of Hamza in Madamakki village in Someshwar Sancturary, at around 10 pm on Monday November 3. They were unhappy about Naik, who was efficient in discharging his duties and stopped the tribals from collecting forest produce illegally from the government forests. It is said that the gang threatened Naik with dire consequences if he continues to create hurdles for the tribals and hit him with the barrel of their gun. Following this, the policemen of the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) approached the family and interrogated its members and intensified its combing operations in the forests surrounding the village.

The family of Naik is shell-shocked and is not willing to speak to the media.  The family seems to have been caught between the Naxal threat and the ANF. The ANF has since undertaken the cordening and searching of several forests in the area. Additional forces have been deployed into the forest for the purpose.

In the meanwhile, policemen belonging to Shankarnarayana police station visited Naik's family and obtained details. However, Naik is said to be hesitant to file an official complaint because of the threat given to him by the naxals.
