Bengaluru: Heavy downpour in several districts - lightning claims six lives

Bengaluru, Sep 26: Heavy rainfall continued to pound several districts of Karnataka on Tuesday September 25. Six persons died due to lightning in Vijayapura, Koppal, Hubballi and Bidar. Over ten were injured. 30 sheep also lost their lives. A large number of electric poles got uprooted and water flowed into low-lying areas.

Vittal Goolappa Vadawadagi (28) from Kannala village in Vijayapura district died due to heavy rain and lightning on Tuesday. The others who lost their lives due to lightning happen to be Yalagureshappa Maruti Yarajhari (22), and Mangala Shankreppa Jalapura (38) from Sasanur village. Mangala had sat down for lunch in the afternoon when lightning struck her. Another villager, Shobha, who was sitting by the side of Mangala, lost her hearing due to lightning. About 25 sheep from different areas in the district died due to lightning.

Suresh Siddanahalli (35) from Halawagali village in Koppal taluk lost his life due to lightning. Five others who were with him at the time suffered extensive injuries. Suresh Shreemangale (6), who had taken shelter under a tree from the rain lost his life after lightning struck the tree. Four women from Sonalwadi in Kamalanagar taluk suffered grievous injuries because of lightning. They have been admitted into the hospital.

Noorjan (40) from Mulgund in Gadag district, who was engaged in agricultural activities, died due to lightning. Similarly, Hasab Naykar (20) from Ingala village in Dharwad district died due to lightning.

    Never heard so many people being hit by lightening and lost life in a single day.
    What would happen in the days to come. ?
    Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening. Because of chnged weather pattern the intensity of lightening is very very powerful.
