Karwar: Government takes over administration of Gokarna temple as per HC order

Daijiworld Media Network - Karwar (SP)

Karwar, Sep 20: As per the orders passed by the high court in a public interest litigation, the administration of Gokarna Lord Mahabaleshwara temple in Uttara Kannada district, which has impressive history and finds mention in mythology, was taken over by the government on Wednesday September 19. The temple had been given to Sri Ramachandrapur Math for administration by the state government in the year 2008 after the government found that it was managing this temple in the past. However, the high court, which upheld the public interest litigation questioning the government's action, ordered the government to take back control of this temple.

The high court had ordered formation of a temple monitoring committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge, Justice B N Srikrishna. Later, a division bench presided over by Justice B V Nagaratna and Justice Aravind Kumar ordered the temple to be vested back with the government.

Deputy commissioner of the district, S S Nakul, who also happens to be the president of the temple monitoring committee, took over the temple administration. The monitoring committee received valuables, ornaments and other assets of the temple, duly tallying the same with a list maintained by the temple authorities.

Administrative officer of the temple, G K Hegde, handed over all lthe fixed and movable assets of the temple to the government.

When the temple administration was being taken over, advocates on behalf of Ramachandrapur Math objected. Advocate, Shambhu Sharma, accused the officials of taking over charge against the SupremeCourt order. He said he would file contempt of court case in the Supreme Court against the government. Several people working as priests in the temple since many years also opposed the taking over. The process however continued under police protection.

Speaking on the occasion, Nakul said that the temple administration has been taken over by the monitirong committee as per the high court order. He said he is not aware about confusions or objections if any Ramachandrapur Math has about the high court judgement, which is clear. He said he had taken over administration as per the instructions of muzrai department commissioner and that members would soon be appointed to the committee.

Additional deputy commissioner, Dr Suresh Itnal, Kumta subdivisional officer, Laxmipriya, and other officials were present.

Thanks to High Court for giving verdict to save the sanctity of this Gokarna temple from the clutches of Sri Ramachandrapur Math Swamiji.

I would request the court appoint main priest from Dalit like Kerala to save the centuries old temple from Brahminical political influence.

Most of people are aren't aware of the developments made by the Sri Ramachandrapura Matha in Gokarna temple in past 10 years. Several development works had been carried out, & some of them can be named out. Until date, over 42 lakhs of devotees irrespective of religion had been served with free meals, since the takeover by matha. So far, around 35 lakhs of fund was distributed as scholarships to students of U.K. District, with distinction marks inherited from poor economic backgrounds. A Water treatment plant had been installed in the temple's Mrustannabhojana Hall, to desalinate the drinking water, so that pure water could be offered to the devotees at large. In all past years during the Summer, beside temple devotees, water in tanker where mobilised & distributed freely to the surrounding villages facing with acute shortage of drinking water. Counting on several development issues & well management, the temple had received ISO 9001:2008 certificate in 2016, & ISO 9001:2015 in 2017.

Moreover, regarding the present legal aspects , there had been a clear interim order by the Hon. Supreme Court, directing for continual of administration with the Math until further directions by SC. Based on this reason, the Advocates had objected for handing over to Govt. Now, the administration is taken forcefully amidst protest, & also at same time the matter is before the SC. So the future course would directly depend on the decision by SC in coming days. Perhaps, the present actions may tantamount to contempt of court order, & we can have a clear picture only in days to come.

Government should start 'Purohit' classes and appoint people of all castes to perform pooja rituals in the Temple.

We can't see people of particular caste eating first pouring a lot of ghee on their meals and hungry children of other castes hanging on the windows of 'Bhojana Shale'

Instead of suggestion you become head priest and make the temple holy place. It is not hotel business to run.
Bojan shaala is not restaurant, it is prasada serving place..if you have problem then just avoid it.
i dont think the perticular caste which you have mentioned have ever asked for separate place for eating in public places?
