Mangalore: Diocese Demands Legal Action Against Kannada Daily

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 19: A release from the local diocese has condemned an article written by writer S L Bhyrappa, that appeared in a Kannada daily on Thursday October 16, and termed it as communally provocative.

The article projects the entire Christian community in bad light, by providing imaginary figures about religious convesions and the missionaries. The article has also levelled various allegations on the Christians. The article is an attempt to provocate communal passions and disrupt peace, the diocese has said.

"In the article, righteous personalities like Jesus Christ, Mother Teresa, Pope Pius II, Pope John Paul II, Abraham and prophet Mohammed have been depicted in a bad taste. Christianity and Islam religions have been derided. History has been interpreted by the writer at his whims and fancies. Various false allegations have been made against Christianity. Hence, legal steps should be initiated against the writer S L Bhyrappa and the Kannada daily which published the article, urged Fr Vincent Monteiro, co-ordinator of the diocese, through a press release.

It is very condescending of PB Dsa to call others as ignoramous. In spite of deluge of words, PB Dsa stands 'nakedly' double standrard. PUCL is nothing but a Hindu bashing organization and nothing else. What were/are you doing about SathyaDarshini? What are you doing about desecration od more than 500 temples in Goa in such a short term?

Did you have courage, will or morality to talk about attack on Sathyanarayana temple in Coorg? Why was/is your toungue tied when Naxals are/were killing in the name of humanity? Oh! you have the excuse of oppression? So if you have a reason, you can take 'law in your hand' and that applies only to you Mr. Dsa?

Dr. Keran Acharya, talks about double standards. "ignorance is bliss, where it is folly to be wise" I do not think ignoramouses like Dr. Kiran have capacity to understand me and my mission. Yet for the benefit of others who read Daigi Dubai, I owe an explation B.V. Seetharam wrote about Jain Munees, going naked in India, where nudity is banned and illegal obscenity is a criminal offence and an enlightened BV raised a debate on the subject.

His intentions were noble. No intellectual opposed or called BVC by names or found fault with him. As for as Dr. Bairappa is concerned literary luminaries like Ravi Belegere and Sanath Kumar Belagali have replied Bairappa convincingly in two different news papers. Please read them. In fact the intentions of BVC were crystal clear.

He was interested in reforming Indian ways whereas the intentions of Bhirappa,V.K. its editor, printer and publisher are malafide. The publication done with an intention to create unrest and disturbances between different classes and castes and religions to gain political mileage. These are traitors who are abusing the constitution and causing unrest in India.

They deserve to be hanged. DR Bhairappa has spit Venom, while BVC spoke sense. Acharya wears yellow glasses therefore he sees yellow all around. I can only pity him. I can take a horse to the water but cannot make it drink. Therefore due apologies to Keran. This reply is not meant for him. In fact I have not kept quiet. In the interest of peace in India, and harmony amongst. castes and classes immediate action is called for against Bhairappa, V.K. its publisher and printer I have suggested to all Arch Bishops, Bishops and Priests in Karnataka to walk to the nearest Police station with a copy of the Newspaper and file a complaint under Sec 153 and 153 A IPC

I have written this as the president of PUCL and not as a Christian as I practice no religion, though Christ is my role model just like Gandhiji and George Fernandes. Religions have shed more blood in this world than any other issue Bhairappa’s article is deliberately, provocative and malafide which may cause civil war in India.

All concerned should visualize if only Christians, Muslims and Dalits join together. what will happen to these fascists when one is pushed to the wall, what happens is perhaps known to all Indians, except those wearing yellow glasses. When the entire world and human rights activists are talking about violence against Christians, churches and their properties’ some people are talking about conversions, where not a single complaint has been lodged in any police station about forceful conversions.

Let me emphatically say that Constitution of India allows conversions and if any body utters a word against this he should be sent to jail for abusing the Constitution of India and Bharat Matha

The only action that christians can take against the said paper is to boycot such yellow journals.Legal battle is a must. Our courts are still secular, barring a few judges who practice suffron politrics.Regarding Byrappa,he is a fox in the garb of a writer.Let the barking dogs bark.

Marian D'Souza, Mangalore Falnir, please note that PUCL chief Mr PB D`Sa had led the protest against the arrest of BVSeetharam, saying that the arrest was against the "freedom of expression and freedom of Press". Now, very same PBD of PUCL wants editor of VijayKarnataka...is it not double standards?

So now a writer is allowed to make provocative statements and write blatant untruths.  Arrest them for inflaming passions prosecute them for defamation convict them in a fast track court for lies and falsehood. Dont the Christian and Muslim communities have enough of strength to challenge this. I think that bitterness, anger and religion based politics will cause a big downfall to our beloved country- are people aware how many foreign companies are under pressure from their shareholders to get out of religion non tolerant countries/states etc. IT/BPO companies are prime candidates for such moves and Gujarat/now Karnataka are prime targets seeing how things are moving.

Two years ago the Editor of Karavali Ale Mr.B.V.Seetharam and his wife were swiftly arrested and lodged in jail for writing a derogatory article on a Jain Muni who had camped in Mangalore in the Dharmadikari of Dharmasthla's house. Such was the influence of the Jain community which is also a minority community in India alongwith Muslims, Christians, Sikhs. But now we have to wait and watch whether the same action will be taken against the publisher and editor of the Kannada daily for such blasphemous writing.

It is time that the Mangalore Diocese Files a Public Interest LItigation in High Court, Bangalore seeking clarification with Documentary Proofs from the said writer. Sitting Behind Demanding Legal Action will not serve any purpose unless we ourselves move forward to seek a Public Apology from the Writer.

Many Unqualified Statements have been made by the Chief Minister and Home Minister depicting Christian in Bad LIght through Conversion though it is not proved till date in any Court of Law India. It is only through Violence that the Good Services of the Christian Community have been suppressed by these HIndu Fundamentalists/Terrorists/Fanatics.

Though I have not read the article but whatever was published condemning the Article itself proves that stringent action should be taken against the writer for creating a Communal Flare Up. Who will do it.

Deccan Herald Office was burnt way back in 1986-87. Like in Judiciary, taking precedent from an earlier incident can help the minority live with dignity.

Every Christian and socially responsible and tolerant person must condemn this narrow minded, communal-hatred-intended and politically motivated article by Swami Byrappa. This article has further added to the damage caused by irresponsible Bajarangis and the State BJP government. BJP government was successful in supporting the objectives of Bajarang Dal and VHP. Also it protected the violent acts by asking the civil authorities like police and district administrations not to take action against the culprits on ground (in real).

Even though BJP government said it will take action, it all was a part of ONE BIG DRAMA (assurances were floating truths which don't have a firm root). The concealed truth behind all these drama is well-known by now. Now the media like Vijaya Karnataka under the patronship of BJP government has ventured into communal-journalism. Also the public money is being spent on maths and hindu celebrations by the BJP government.

Effectively, the BJP goverment has used all public modes of service and public weapons to sow the communal hatred in the harmonious society. Byrappa kind of writers are the latest addition to this Brand-communal agenda. All this political game with hidden agendas must be stopped.

What kind of writer this Bharappa is? Not intellectual at all, because he has written wrong things and hurt a large section of population who always lived peacefully and faithful to patriotic values.

Unless their is a joint action by muslims and christians, I think this problem will persist and will have to live ignoring or take strong and stringent action where anybody will never dare writing nonsense in news paper nor issuing provocative statements which is banned constitutionally
