Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (DC)

Udupi, Jul 19: The KMC hospital Manipal in a press release after the Shiroor mutt seer's death, said that there is suspicion of poisoning.

"Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji was brought to Kasturba hospital, Manipal at 1 am on July 18 from a private hospital in Udupi. "A team of doctors from Kasturba hospital provided medical care in the form of ventilator support, blood transfusion and dialysis. Udupi: Shiroor Swamiji cited threat to his life – seer’s advocate

Ravikiran Murdeshwar, advocate representing the Shiroor Math seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji, hours after seer was declared dead, said that the seer had cited threat to his life over issue of idols of presiding deities of his Math.

Speaking to reporters, Ravikiran, Kundapur based lawyer, who represented the Shiroor seer, said, "The seer had asked to file criminal case against all 6 seers barring Puttige Swamiji. I had prepared for the same. He had discussed about the threat to his life for almost 2 hours with me,"

"There should be a high level enquiry into the death of the seer,” he added.

Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji, head of Shiroor Math, passed away on the wee hours of Thursday, July 19.

Poisoning was cause of death?

The doctors at the KMC hospital said that the seer might have consumed food laced with poison.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent of KMC, said, "Seer might have consumed food laced with poison. We have informed the police about seer's death. Post-mortem report will reveal the facts,”

The post-mortem is carried out in the presence of Manipal police.

Meanwhile Vishwa Vijaya Swami, junior pontiff of the Pejawar Math has demanded high-level enquiry into the death citing that the death was not natural.

Since the seer was ill few months ago, he had given the idols of the presiding deities of his Math to Ishtapriya Theertha Swami, junior seer of Adamaru Math to keep at the sanctum sanctorum of the Sri Krishna Math. But when he sought the idols back after his recovery, the seers of the six of the Ashta Maths refused to hand over them. The six seers agreed to return the idols after he appoints a junior seer, which was not accepted by the seer. He had even threatened to file a criminal case.

One must appreciate the ethics followed by the KMC doctors in revealing the truth. It takes a lot of guts and courage to give a true opinion about the mysterious death of one among them. Pope John Paul I died a few days after announcing to straighten off the irregularities in Vatican. It took long time to know the reason for his death. One should never afraid of telling the truth and the truth will prevail and set us free. We are all humans and tend to do mistakes and the faithfuls will understand this facts and move on....but never lose their faith in Almighty.

Really tragic, especially considering the acrimony among the butt seeds and the resulting disputes. About a 80_90 years ago, when there were disputes among the damage of ashthamathas, the highly respected elder of Udupi, Khan Bahadur Hajee Abdullah Saheb of Udupi used to mediate between them and resolved the issues. But in those days, people did not have such distrust among them and everybody listened to a righteous man.

What is happening in my India ? At one place, some anti social elements beat and thrash a religious swami for talking truth and criticizing the government, some places due to fake news mob lynches innocent people in the name of cow and child kidnapping and now one prominent respected swamijis suspicious death. Where is my India heading ? Do we have an effective law in our country or it is only available in law books for our lawyers to study and pass law exams. God save my country and people

Kudos to KMC and they have kept the decorum of institution high, when the post-mortem report of paresh mestha issued by KMC , BJP was hell bent to prove it as wrong in order to garner vote to show it as a preplanned murder and their cooked story of pouring hot oil on his face whereas the post-mortem report clearly described the blacked face was natural phenomena due to decay of the body.

Now in Shiroor seer's case also KMC has brought the truth out without bending to the pressure.

@Saihu Udipi Dubai, blacked face of the Body cant be the natural decay of the body ,but a clear sign of poisoning, either by a snake bite or other methods. There will be some change of colour there ,but it is different.Doctors might have told it.

@ Rarthan - So you mean state should start interfering in the internal matters related to matts and religious places as well? When govt wanted to bring religious places under its controlled it was all protested and govt withdrew it later on.

Govt cant enter into someones house for settling internal matters. It was an (allegedly) internal dispute and since the Swamiji has lost his life now the law will start taking action and state will also interfere.

    Hope this is clear?
