BJP workers thrash activist Swami Agnivesh in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jul 17 (IANS): Social activist Swami Agnivesh was attacked and beaten up by suspected supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Jharkhand's Pakur district on Tuesday, leaving him shaken.

Police said the 78-year-old was attacked when he was going to participate in the 195th Damin Mahotsav at Littpara. The incident occurred just when he stepped out of his hotel.

The attackers first shouted slogans and showed black flags and later thrashed him even as he fell on the ground and his aides did their best to protect him.

The police detained 20 of the attackers.

    Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh political wing BJP is indeed now acting like 'Hindu Taliban' of India.

    In the past, they murdered the Mahant of the Ramjanmabhoomi temple Laldas was appointed by a court of law as the chief priest in the Ramjanmabhoomi temple in the year 1983 and continued in this position until the year 1992. He was a vocal opponent of the work of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad — he vehemently demanded Lal Krishna Advani halt his rath yatra.

    Yesterday it was Member of Parliament and former Deputy Chief United Nation Shashi Taroor.

    Today it was Swami Agnivesh in Jharkhand.

    Is this BJP's 'Sab Ka saath, sab ka vikas'?

    As long as EVMs are our subjects BJP doesn't have to fear. No damage done unpopularity doesn't mean anything to us. We can kill, destroy and burn anyone at anytime doesn't affect our vote counts because of our EVMs. Our Swiss accounts are growing pretty well so we are very strong financially and buy anybody we want so nobody can topple us.

    The thrashing of this winner of Alternative Nobel Peace Prize "Right Livelihood Award" is very much regretful. This international award is given to "honour and support those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today." . I feel very very sad of such a thing happening in our country to a man who is internationally recognised as a peace activist.
