Mangaluru, Jun 22: A lodge at Pumpwell here was raided on Friday June 22 over alleged human trafficking. Six girls were rescued in the operation.

Hotel Annapoorna was raided on Friday morning for allegedly carrying out human trafficking and other illegal activities.

The raid was conducted by Mysuru-based Odanadi Samstha which fights against human trafficking, along with Kadri police.

The police and the Samstha team broke open the door of the lodge and rescued the girls, sources said.

Several sachets of condoms were found at the spot.

Official sources said that based on prior information tha children were being brought from Bangladesh illegally, the Odinadi Samtha raided the lodge with the help of the police.

However, after raiding the lodge, it came to light that no human trafficking was involved, but that prostitution racket was being run there. The girls were being used for the racket were rescued.

Jennifer - your are very right. No young girl or a woman gets in to Prostitution on her own will to enjoy her life. She is forced in to it under some circumstances. What are these circumstances, we do not know. And once they get into this dirty trap, drunk men treat them like objects of entertainment. If these girls do not co-operate with these lusty men, these women are tortured like animals. !!
If our men are so worried about these ladies in Prostitution, who goes to them, leaving behind their own wives at home? Do the men who encourage prostitution, who go to them to enjoy extra marital sexual life, look at your own family ladies in that same feeling? No, you will not. So be careful about your comments about ladies. If men do not go to prostitutes, how will the rackets survive.!!
Make Prostitution legal or not, it is still an un-healthy issue. Aren't the owners of these shady lodges guilty of what they do illegally? What a shame. !!
This is why our people should first learn to educate their girl children, give them due respect at home in own families, treat them at par with boys in the family. Encourage girl child to study and be educated. They start working in decent places and support families. Then our society will be a much better place to live in.
Stop pointing finger at others, because one finger is pointed at them & 04 fingers are pointing back at oneself.

Prostitution should be legalized in India and its happening all over India illegally and with consent in all towns, taluks and districts. Often police raid to get publicity and most of the people aware of it. It has been practiced for years for fun and living. It has reduced many rapes of women and men so whoever willingly practice let them enjoy.

Due to increased population of outsiders and those come here to work as labourers in various projects from other states are main cause of these illegal activities in our district. Educated people and students have their own way of enjoying - Beach/Pub etc... All these depend on money power. No need to blame any party or religion for this.

This has become a Business like educational Institutes which get money through donation. Only way to curb this act is give moral education at Home and in Schools. Also local police and concerned authorities should keep an eye on these Hotels/Restaurant, Rented Homes and Flats... In addition to this people in the locality should form a group and aware of these activities and inform the dept. with proof.... MP/MLA's are not to be called for this because there is a chance of their influencing the culprit and case will become PUSSSSSKAAA....

    Piush,

No double standards. People have given-up. Year end 2017 and New-year party of 2018 was forbidden by the groups, people did abide with it. All parties were conducted outside Mangaluru. Therefore, rest assured, Home-stays and pubs are maintaining the culture that the groups dictate on people of Mangaluru.

Likewise, the groups must continue to be the culture-keepers, not only until their Hafta is paid to them. NGOs coming from Mysuru ? Why ? Are our guardians of culture got drowned in recent rain waters ? And, no calling Ivan - nobody took his permission while attacking places or worship, Home-Stay, or the Pub.

    Period !

Is prostitution illegal in India? Why raids on lodges every now and then?
Our police not interested to arrest murderers, robbers, moral police, terrorists etc. But they always do soft target.

Since girls are not complained about human trafficking or rapes, police have no rights to conduct such a raids. Home minister should take note of it and make sure that it should not happen again in Karnataka.

    Harish,

If Sathi can be abolished, child-marriage can be controlled, widows can be re-married, why not prostitution stopped ?

Who wants this to continue after all ? I don't think the women that are there inside the brothels - please ask her if that is a trade she willingly took up !

We don't want any excuse - women serve as bonded labours in a brothel - they are not earning their bread. They are made to work by some powerful force which must be stopped.

Why prostitution not be legal? They are (man/woman) making use of the available talent to earn a living. People with brains sell intelligence to earn a living. So using body to earn a living is permissible.

Prostitution is not a healthy trade. There is no future for a prostitute once she/he gets old - the brothel owner will throw them out. What would happen to such old/sick individuals in the Indian society ?

Secondly, when prostitutes get pregnant, their children again have no place in the society, as a result they too walk in the same path that their mother trod.

No, do not encourage such practice. A man/woman has right and opportunity to marry, thus seek sexual and procreation opportunity. Remaining single and availing the services of brothels is not correct. Do not spoil our social norms.

You are right, prostitutes doesn't have future and their children will follow the same path. We all know why a girl sell her body, its due to poverty, and in most of the cases they are taking care of their family from the income generated from prostitution. All governments irrespective of party who ruled India since independence, failed to provide the basic needs of all citizens or India.
3755 crores Rupees spent only on publicity since 2014, a statue of Shivaji is costing 3800 crores and Patel statue erected at the cost of 2500 crores. Due to incompetency of the government and bank officials another 40,000 crores money gone out of country. We need a government whose priority should be ERADICATION OF POVERTY AND TO PROVIDE FREE EDUCATION TO ALL, REST ALL NONSENSE TASKS TO BE PUSHED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST, then only prostitution and crimes will stop.
if we need such government, we should stop voting the criminals on the basis of religion.
Any person want to contest election must be a post graduate, with vast experience in administration, and good track record, and we should throw all the criminals currently ruling the country in dust bin.

Peacelover, I agree with everything you say, but not with the part that "We all know why a girl sell her body, its due to poverty, and in most of the cases they are taking care of their family from the income generated from prostitution"

Which girl goes willingly to be a prostitute ? You must be mad ! Parents raise their children with most difficult ways and wish to give them off in marriage when the girl grows up. Do not insult us women who have studied facing many difficulties and are working today to support our spouse in bringing up our family.

If the girl goes into prostitution to support the family, what you and the men-fold do ? Spend your earnings in the brothels ? Go man, marry and have sex - do not wait for a new girl everyday ! Hereafter, please maintain respect while you speak about girls/women.

Yes, those who are in the prostitution are enticed, lured into or the rape victims who have no hope of marrying anybody. Exactly that !

@Jennifer::: Prostitution is said to be the "Oldest Profession". That apart, the world and the social practices are changing, the push for equality among sexes making a big dent on the structure of family and institution of marriage. Permissive society, which cant be stopped, coupled with increasing divorce rates will make marriage meaningless.
Rest of your arguments, I think are not very valid, considering the legal prostitution in many European countries.

    Eustance,

What if prostitution is world's oldest profession ? What if its legalized in Europe ? Aren't we Indians the followers of most ancient culture , traditions, ethos, customs and what not ? Disregarding the fact that some 11% and 22% since a few centuries are affiliated to the migrated religions, aren't the rest of us still following an Indian way of life ? Why should we follow Europe when it comes to physical entertainment ? Hmmm ?

Now, I am not too sure that the prostitution came into India after invaders found their way - is it by any-chance ?

I am giving a simple solution, eradication of poverty and free education to all. Only an able government can do this, for that we have to vote able candidates not on the basis of religion or against Rupees 500 or a bottle of liquor. If we continue to elect these criminals, nothing is going to happen, they will divide the people on the basis of religion for vote bank.
We can understand illiterates can be fooled easily but I came across highly qualified people, without evaluating the performance of a government, blindly support.
Other solution is NO SECOND CHANCE TO BECOME A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT OR MINISTER, ONLY ONCE CHANCE SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR 5 YEARS, THAT'S ALL. At present the elected people's 90% of the time is wasted on how to grab the power again after 5 years! If they put the same effort to uplift the welfare of the citizens, India will become a heaven.
