Mangaluru, Jun 21: Since the last two days, coastal Karnataka has been experiencing torrential rainfall. Malnad region of the state and some places in north Karnataka received some rainfall.

A huge tree got uprooted at Melkarl near Bantwal as a result of which a person named Ramsevak (36) was killed. He was from Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh. Another person, identified as Dileep, suffered serious injuries. He stands admitted into a private hospital. The incident occurred when Dileep had gone out to attend nature's call on Wednesday June 20 afternoon.

The district recorded an average rainfall of 91.8 mm. As heavy rain is battering the district, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, has asked heads of schools to monitor the situation and announce holidays depending upon local exigencies.

All the rivers in Dakshina Kannada including Netravati, Kumaradhara and Gurpur are overflowing. Water is being discharged from the vented dam at Malavoor as it is full.

The sea has become tumultous at Padukare, Kanakod, Udyavar in Udupi taluk. Huge waves are hitting the shore. Concrete road to an extent of nearly half a km near Kanakod Pandarinath Bhajana Mandir has been damaged. Locals are apprehensive about the chances of Udayavar - Padukare road getting heavily damaged due to sea erosion and the residents here losing connectivity with other parts of the region.

Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru district and Hubballi received normal rainfall on Wednesday morning. Kodagu district received heavy rainfall in the morning, followed by intermittent drizzle. Places like Shivamogga city, Sagar, Bhadravathi, Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district and Hosadurga and surrounding areas of Chitradurga district received good rainfall for an hour on Wednesday morning.
