Puttur: Compost pipe purchase scandal - case registered against many

Puttur, May 26: A separate complaint has been registered in the district police station of Anti Corruption Bureau here against presidents of gram panchayats (GP) and officials relating to funds misappropriation in purchase of compost pipes during the year 2015-16. The complaint was filed on May 25.

President of Jalsoor GP in Sullia taluk, Shashikala S Nayak and panchayat development officer (PDO), Sheena A, Sandhya Ramachandra, president of Kodimbady GP and retired PDO, Damodar Gowda, Aryapu GP president, Geetha and PDO,Jagadeesh, Bilinele GP president, Sharada T, PDO, Saroja B, and secretary, Ramesh P, Koila GP president, Meenakshi B and PDO ChitravathiPerabe  GP president, Baby C Patali and in-charge PDO, G D Lalita, have been named as accused.

Nodal Officer of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat's Swachhata Andolan, Rohit M, happens to be the common accused in all these cases.

The allegations of misappropriation were investigated police inspector, Mohan Kottary and previous inspector, Yogeesh Kumar, under the guidance of superintendent of police of Anti Corruption Bureau, Shruti N S. The ACB had initially begun investigation on the complaint about irregularities in purchase of compost pipes relating to Kutruppady GP and later expanded the scope as it unearthed more details. It is said that bills were obtained for purchase of compost pipes in the name of a company that never existed.
