Kaup: Ten injured after speeding bus rams into parked tempo at Udyavar

Kaup, May 23: At least 10 persons sustained injuries after a speeding bus rammed into a stationary tempo on national highway 66 at Udyavar here on Wednesday May 23.

The injured have been identified as Sudeep of Shivamogga (21), Pavitra from Nandikur (23), Mohammed from Ullal (53), Shilpa Shenoy from Suratkal (23), Swapna from Gundibail (28), Vidya S Poojary from Udyavar (30, Soumya from Padabettu (21), Prakash from Katapady (21) and tempo driver Santosh (23) from Katapady.


The tempo laden with hollow blocks was plying towards Udupi. The driver had parked the tempo near Halima Sabju hall in Udyavar, and was waiting for a loader. A private bus plying from Mangaluru to Udupi rammed into the tempo from behind, causing injuries to at least 10 persons.

Due to the impact of the accident, the tempo overturned and the hollow blocks scattered on the road. Both the bus and tempo were badly damaged.

The accident caused traffic snarls on the highway for sometime.

Kaup police as well as personnel of Katapady outpost rushed to the spot and with the help of the locals restored the traffic.

Kaup police have registered a case.

    Recent times have seen a lot of vehicular accidents where stationary vehicles parked on busy roads have been rammed into; claiming many lives. It is the failure of NHAI & police to address this lacuna, that is killing our population everyday.

    nothing is going to happen to the driver.. even though all knows it's his fault ... most of the time it will be the recklessness of the driver being the reason most of the time.. especially here at Mangalore udupi road. yesterday there was driver who took his bus from the left pathway with such a high speed and entered highway from left, stopping a truck putting break all of sudden. in turn all of us who were behind the truck had to put sudden break ... luckily we didn't bang each other... irrespective all these problems to so many vehicles this gentleman took away. that's their way now... so unless authorities take severe action this will continue.

    Unless you were a bus/truck driver, you wouldn't know how difficult it is to avoid a stationary vehicle on the highway. It's not a car where you get excellent visibility. I'm not supporting the driver if he was driving recklessly but for a fact even at slow speeds it's difficult to avoid a stationary vehicle at a place you would least expect.

    One of the bus violating all traffic rules and virtually everyone in this bus prays to God throughout the journey! Vacuum horns have been removed from this bus many times earlier but they keep on reappearing and they.honk them in front of police! So this accident is no surprise!

    They badly need to be trained well.
    Who can train them ?
    We need to get our RTO people trained from England which may help.
