Mangaluru: 'Khader and I share good bond, will be happy if he gets ministry' - B M Farooq

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, May 20: JD(S) leader B M Farooq on Sunday May 20 denied allegations reported in a section of the media that he and MLC Ivan D'Souza were interfering with MLA U T Khader's chances of getting a ministerial berth in the yet-to-be-formed Congress-JD(S) government.

Speaking to daijiworld, Farooq, who is the state general secretary of JD(S), said, "U T Khader and I share a good bond and there is absolutely no problem between us. I will be very happy if Khader is made a minister. Getting a ministerial berth is the party's decision and I have nothing to do with it. There can be no interference at all. If the high command insists on giving me a portfolio, I will welcome it. But I am not lobbying for any ministerial post.

"U T Khader is the lone Congress MLA in the Dakshina Kannada district and he will naturally be the first choice to become a party of the new cabinet. I am a businessman and it is not right on my part to interefer in the party's decision. It is left to the party as to who should be part of the cabinet," he said.

On allegedly pitting K Ashraf as the JD(S) candidate against Khader in Ullal, Farooq said, "It was a pre-election subject. As per the party's decision, the JD(S) district committee came up with the candidature in Mangaluru (Ullal) constituency, and I never interfered in such things as ticket distribution and recommending candidates. It is not my business.

"Being a state general secretary I have the responsibility to strengthen the party at the state level. In many constituencies our candidates fought the election against the Congress. The same happened in Mangaluru also. But now the entire scenario has changed. In some constituencies people elected our candidates and in some Congress candidates. It means they defeated BJP candidates. People do not want see Yeddyurappa as their CM. So we followed the people's wish and it helped us come together. Now we are looking forward to giving a good administration in the state.

"The allegations reported in a section of media are not true. Both JD(S) and Congress leadership will take appropriate decisions about various ministries and departments," Farooq asserted.

Yeah I am also very surprised. It does not look like an 'alliance' as claimed. Moreover it looks like Cong sold the CM seat to JDS for its survival. Its pretty obvious ,Cong is very quiet about the ministry as well . All the lucrative seats have gone to JDS, Finance, law and order, Inteligence and many more. Only the less performing port folios are allotted to Cong. HDK yesterday confidently said that ' this was pre agreed , that Cong will have no say in any decesion making. They will only support from within' . I firmly believe that this is riddicullous, and will prove wrong for Cong in the long run.

When your intention is to make only money, how does it matters which minister you are ? More over, congress doesn't have to hear that they headed the most corrupt govt in India.

Mr. U. T. Khadar is sole MLA from twin district in ruling coalition. By default, he will be minister, and he will be minister in charge of both districts.

In 2004, in the Dakshina Kaannada district; BJP 7 seats, Congress 7 seats; Independent and popular person Mr. Jaya Prakash Hegde was elected from Brahmavar constituency. Mr. Deve Gowda sought support of Brahmavar independent MLA, Mr. Hegde and allocated him cabinet rank as minister of Fisheries. It seems that Mr. Khadar will have same role in the new Karnataka government.

Mr. Ivan and Mr. Farooq are just playing to be important!!!

You said it right. There are plenty of Elected MLA's if they arent capable, then the party should decide to give chances for this time defeated MLA's such as Shr. LOBO
instead of Backdoor entry candidate Ivan.

Ivan D'Souza was already a MLC and Whip of the party at the Legislative council so He should have come with similar words about Mitun Rai and should have supported Mitun Rai for Congress ticket knowing Bunts and other Hindu community vote was very important in Moodubidri. Now Moodbidri has gone to communal party. Ivan, Farooq and other young Congress and JD (L) members should support Mathun Rai for upcoming Parliamentary election against under educated Nalin Katil Shetty in preventing communal persons to the gate of power.

All non communal people should project Mithun Rai as next Parliamentary candidate or other powerful well respected Bunt against Nalin Katel Shetty. So the Bunt and other Hindu community vote will be split among two Bunt candidates, All Dalit & minority vote may go to secular party so, the people of the Country may able to keep communal and under educated persons away from the gates of power.
