UAE Contenstants Get Ready for 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore'

Media Release

Dubai, Sep 7: With the finals of the ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ in Kuwait in the horizon, Mangalore Konkans Dubai are taking a keen interest in preparing the participants by conducting mentoring sessions over the summer.

The first workshop was conducted on Friday, 27th June 2008 at 10:30 am at Winny’s Restaurant, Dubai.  Seasoned singers and performers in the fine arts like Ms Olivia Rodrigues, Ms Olinda Goveas and Mr Manohar Pais were invited to this session to impart their experience and knowledge as participants, judges and spectators.

A second workshop was held on Friday, 05th September 2008 at 11 am.  The President of Mangalore Konkans Mr. James Mendonca, Dubai and the committee members welcomed the participants. The Event Coordinator, Mr Valerian Peris, commenced the session with a short prayer, followed by the introduction of the guest speakers - Mr Jossy Moras, Mr Stany D’Souza and Mr Errol Goveas.  Each of them is a noted talent in the music arena in their own right.  Their views and instructions were very practical and they presented a wealth of expertise from which the candidates can fine tune their performance so as to be able to compete at the very high level expected in the competition.  The speakers emphasized that practice and innovation are vital for any accomplishment in the competition.

The most important piece of advice the contestants received is that a winning performance is one that comes from the heart; for it is the heart that communicates and understands the message of the song and ultimately captivates the listener.

Valerian Peris handed out the final song selected for each contestant by the panel of judges comprising of Wilfy and Meena Remimbus, Melwin Peris and Joel Pereira,  and read out the rules of the competition.  The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks and a prayer.

The semi finals will be held on 3rd of October from 5:30 pm onwards at the Indian Consulate Dubai. Entry will be by passes and invitations only at the rate of AED 25/-, and can be collected from the members of Mangalore Konkans, Dubai. This event is part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of Mangalore Konkans, Dubai
