Haveri, Apr 19: District superintendent of police, K Parashuram, clarified that on the face of it, an accident which happened late night on Tuesday April 17 involving an escort vehicle of Union minister, Ananth Kumar Hegde, does not appear to be a murder attempt on the minister.
When the minister was moving to Bengaluru from Sirsi, a truck had hit the escort vehicle of the minister near Halageri on national highway. In this accident, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police, Prabhu Talwar, suffered injury to his shoulder, while driver, Umesh, escaped with minor injuries. Relating to the incident, the truck and its driver, Nasir, were taken into custody. During preliminary questioning of the driver, it appears that the incident was not a murder attempt of the minister, Parashuram clarified.
On the basis of complaint made by ASI Prabhu Talwar, a case stands registered about the accident in Halageri police station. During primary probe, the police found that the driver does not have any antecedent of serious criminal offences. At the same time, he added that the incident is being investigated in all seriousness in view of the minister's tweet treating the incident as a murder attempt on him. He added that a special team headed by Ranebennur deputy superintendent of police has been formed to thoroughly probe this incident.
