New Delhi, Mar 19: After senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily disowned the controversial tweet, which had hinted money playing a role in selecting Congress candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Congress high command has decided to close the matter and end the controversy.

“We have enquired into the matter. Moily has said he did not do it. We treat the matter closed," AICC general secretary in-charge Karnataka, K C Venugopal told a newspaper.

The controversial post took a dig at Public Works Minister HC Mahadevappa. Shared from Harsha Moily's Twitter handle on Thursday night as well as Veerappa Moily's Twitter handle, the tweet read, "INC needs to solve money in politics. We can't afford to have road contractors and their nexus with the state PWD minister determine how candidates are selected for the upcoming assembly elections."

The tweet went viral and raised eyebrows regarding the Congress functioning. An enquiry was launched by the party high command on Friday.

However, Moily clarified with the media that neither he nor his son has any role in it. “That Twitter handle is not in my control. It's not an appropriate tweet. I am withdrawing it."

He also claimed that the mistake was committed by someone else and assured that it shall not repeat in future. However, when asked if he will file a complaint with the cyber crime police, to check if his account was hacked, he said “forget the matter,”

When Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was asked for a reaction, he said as Moily has disowned the tweet, there is nothing to react.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara suspects the tweet episode to be the handiwork of the BJP. He clarified that the ticket selection is a lengthy process and one cannot hijack the same.
