Mangaluru: Police phone-in - Strict action against unauthorised flex banner display in city

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 17: "Three cases have been filed this week in the city regarding the menace of flex banner display. Unauthorized and plastic flex display is prohibited. District commissioner (DC) has passed an order to all the local administrative organizations including Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). The action will be still stringent during election time," said, T R Suresh, police commissioner of Mangaluru city.

The commissioner was responding to a complaint raised by one of the citizens during the phone-in programme on Friday, March 16. The complainant said that flex banners were increasing in the city. Even if the programme is an ordinary one, the organizers display 50 to 60 flex banners by the roadside. Sometimes this leads to altercation and fights also.

The commissioner further clarified that the public can always raise a complaint regarding flex display at public places. Only cloth flexes are allowed, that too with necessary authorisation from the concerned MCC department.

Improper bus service in some areas

Callers brought to the notice of the commissioner that there are more than 30 buses that ply via Konaje route. However, only two buses come to gram panchayat office at Konaje. They requested that all buses should go to the gram panchayat office. The commissioner assured that information will be conveyed to concerned people at the earliest.

The commissioner also assured of investigation and action on a complaint that a bus between Talapady and Kinnigoli has not been running since six months.

Other important issues during the programme:

- Two buses cutting trips to Atrebail
- Route number 31, bus by the name Suvarna not making trips in the afternoon and on Sundays
- Speed breakers required at Maroli
- Obstructions in parking of vehicles near KSRTC bus stand Bejai
- Flex banners fixed on Yeyyadi-Haripadav road causing obstruction to traffic. Also, a cable television wire tied to an electric pole is very close to the high tension wire
- Vehicles are plying at high speed near the crossing to Hathill at Karavali Utsav grounds. CCTV camera should be installed there or police personnel have to be stationed
- Out of two route number 18 buses, one is not functioning properly
- Traffic is obstructed at Nandigudda road due to parking of vehicles on both sides of the road.
- Autorickshaw drivers are causing an issue by parking their vehicles at places not designated for them
- Traffic issue at Karangalpady road due to pipe repair works
- The height of footboard of route number 2 is too high and causing issues for ladies to climb and alight
- Temporary bus stop should be made available near old Congress party office between Lady Goschen hospital and Light House Hill road
- Concrete slab is broken at various places on the footpath near Hampankatta, K S Rao road and Court road, causing danger to pedestrians
- City buses are not plying to Kodical after 8 pm
- Trucks are parked on the footpath at Shaktinagar
- City buses are causing traffic issue by not following lane discipline near Jokatte railway crossing
- Two-wheeler riders are riding without helmet near Sootarpet area

This was the 75th phone-in programme and 28 calls were received in total. Deputy commissioners of police Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashant, assistant commissioner of police Manjunath Shetty, traffic police inspectors Kumar Swamy and Sunil Kumar, sub-inspector Chandra, assistant sub-inspectors Yousuf and Shyamsundar and president of
Canara bus owners' association Rajaverma Ballal were present.

Court cannot give judgement on video evidence and there should be a real victim and no body came to testify against these culprits as all the girls are from well to do family and no body wants their name in this case. don't just blame legal system.

I wish they do the same all over the state. See the condition of hoardings, public meetings by blocking roads, etc. by political parties in Bangalore. It is free for all. Everywhere the road sign boards are covered by hoardings. In fact the sign boards are used as poles for exhibiting photographs of goonda politicians everywhere.
BBMP is just a puppet in the hands of all politicians.

It's the duty of those who have put the flex to remove very next day. Otherwise police must free hands to public to remove that.

Out of the seventeen important issues the city bus problems leads the complaints. Canara bus owners' association Rajaverma Ballal should know that the districts of DK and Udupi do not need the private bus mafia. The private bus mafia should be abolished. Most important complaint the conductors of the city buses do not issue tickets.

    Good list of complaints.
When would problems be addressed ?
Or, would any of the problems be addressed ??
    I am keen on:-
Flex banners fixed on Yeyyadi-Haripadav road causing obstruction to traffic. Also, a cable television wire tied to an electric pole is very close to the high tension wire ( cable TV wires are hanging everywhere )
Autorickshaw drivers are causing an issue by parking their vehicles at places not designated for them. ( pedestrians are forced to walk on the middle of the road )
Concrete slab is broken at various places on the footpath near Hampankatta, K S Rao road and Court road, causing danger to pedestrians ( some places concrete slabs are just missing - anyone may fall into drainage and break their bones )
Trucks are parked on the footpath at Shaktinagar (most places vehicles are parked on the footpath meant for pedestrians and forced to walk on the middle of the road endangering their lives.)
    Add on:-
Vehicle are moving on the wrong side of the road, many places. very regularly in Bikampady

i agree, but the loud sounds are not so much an inconvenience as the speed of the buses. No 15 buses think its the airport runway, number 19 and number 5 never wait for the people to get into the buses, morever the conductors are rude/ poke fun at women and elderly.

also pls do something about religious processions/ jathre/ demonstrations. let them all be conducted at a particular venue/ time. the streets are not the place for this.
