Mohammed Shami's wife files police complaint, accuses him of torture

Kolkata, Mar 9 (PTI): Team India pacer Mohammed Shami's wife Hasin Jahan on Thursday lodged a written complaint with the police against the cricketer, alleging domestic violence and infidelity.

Hasin submitted a written complaint to Kolkata Police Joint CP (Crime) Praveen Tripathi who said that it would be treated as an FIR. "We have received a complaint from the cricketer's wife where she has alleged physical and mental torture by him. We are yet to decide on which sections a case can be started," he told reporters.

After meeting Tripathi, Hasin said she has described her ordeal to him and the officer promised proper action in the case. "I have met the officer and told him everything about how I have been tortured by Shami. I have also told him about his multiple sexual partners despite being married to me," Hasin said.

Shami, on Wednesday, in posts on his Facebook page and Twitter handle, had claimed that the news was false and a conspiracy to defame him.

    Mohammad Shami is a very good and accurate fast bowler of team India. As you remembered, the final test against SA was turned into Indian victory mainly because of Shami. I am a fan of him and his wife should have been thought all about his career. If she hurts like this, there would be major impact on his career too. If she does not like to stay with him, let she give him a divorce instead of mental harassment. Some one born to spoil career of famous people. M.Shami do think about your future and better give her divorce as to retain your good form in Cricket. Wife is not important for you now rather than your good form in the game.

    Agree, Shammi is an excellent bowler. Well, does that gives him freedom to be unfaithful to his wife ? If he is not dedicated towards his wife, why did he need marriage ? He could have chosen to be in a different female's company every other day - wouldn't he ?

    So, when a wife comes into the life of a man (and vice-versa), the respect of a man/woman increases. Its is the duty of both of them to protect that respect, not take it for granted. He can't flirt around and threaten his wife to keep quiet about - can he ? And, I say, no respectful woman will keep quiet about it.

    As for his talent that might be lost because of these problems, is he a soldier on the border that he is sacrificing his life for ? He is being paid for his profession. If he doesn't play, somebody else will. If he wants to retain his position in the team, let him maintain discipline - no less, no more !

    Complaint was straightaway converted into FIR unlike in other case where some words of the former were omitted in the latter. Section to be decided later depending on the offer amount. Is his wife refusing to go with him to matches and is he selecting local partners? Any counter complaint by Mohd Shami that he is going out because of torture by his wife?

    Last week news brokeout few hours before BCCI contract renewal was about to take place and he was withheld of the reason. The time of filing case is certainly raise a question. There might be the differences between husband and wife but to this level by his wife is mysterious while Shami tweeted he is innicent. There are many ways to solve the internal domeatic problems without making this much of hype.. Fair investigation to be taken place.

    Are you suspecting conspiracy in the timing of her filing a case ? You must be rather thankful (at-lest BCCI will) because it came out before issuing the contract. Else, there would have been embarrassment of withdrawing the contract. You can understand the need to visit the police station innumerable times to get the matter cleared. If he was under contract, certainly he would not have been in a position to take so much leave.

    Whether she is correct or not in her accusations is a matter for the authorities to solve. A woman will not risk hers and her child's (especially a daughter)'s reputation by fabricating charges to such shameful level pertaining to her spouse/child's father. Above all, she will never get into legal mess if she did not have adequate proof to support her claim.
