Mangaluru: Students condemn Adyapady incident, raise voice against immoral rowdyism

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Scores of students and citizens on Wednesday February 14 staged a strong protest at Light House Hill road here condemning the recent incident at Adyapady where a man and a woman were allegedly assaulted, molested and robbed by a group. They also protested against frequent cases of immoral rowdysim (moral policing) and molestation and said that Mangaluru was turning out to be unsafe for girls.

Addressing the protest, social activist Vidya Dinker said, "Today the city is witnessing frequent incidents of immoral policing. Are we safe in Mangaluru given the rising cases of immoral policing and molestion that are taking place? The state has failed us, the system has failed us, the police have failed us terribly and we are here yet again protesting."

Referring to the Adyapady incident, she said, "Recently a young girl was molested and abused by a bunch of goons who told them how they should behave and where they should go. They just clicked photos and videos and blackmailed with the threat to post them on social media. The man and the woman were doing nothing, they were just sitting in the car. There was nothing wrong, still these bunch of goons questioned, molested, and abused them.

"This was not the first time, on January 2 a moral policing incident took place at Pilikula when young girls were openly abused in the presence of police who did not even act. Goons even entered the house of a Dalit girl and dared to question the family because she had talked to a Muslim guy. All this indicates that women are unsafe not only in malls, parks, beaches, but also in their own houses where these goons dare to enter and threaten," she said.

"There is a fearful atmosphere even in colleges as students are afraid to talk to each other, thinking that they will be beaten up later on. Even when you go to malls there is someone or the other who will ask why you later why you were with him or her. Who are these people? What is their problem? Enough is enough, we need to shout back and not keep silent anymore. We need to speak up and strongly raise our voice. We will be smart, the smartest and safe. Youths of Mangaluru should raise their voice and dare to come forward and push these goons away," she said.

SDM student Samantha said, "I applaude and salute the courage of the woman who was molested at Bajpe for raising her voice and leading by example. We are here to protest against moral policing and molestion, thanks to the men who arranged this protest. Let this be the a good start for a new era.

"I thank the state government and the police for taking action in the Adyapady case. This will be a benchmark for our society. A few are ashamed to say that they go out late in the night and hide issues if something goes wrong because the society will not accept it. The courage of the woman who was molested and raised her voice shows that there is nothing to be ashamed of. We should raise our voice strongly against it, so that we can walk with our heads held high in the society. Let us be united and let our voice become an echo. We do not want our classmates, sisters, and neighbours to become victims of moral policing," she said.

Shraddha compered the protest. Suhan Alva and others were present.

Students condemn Adyapady incident, raise voice against immoral rowdyism: This is your birth right dear students. Nowadays Mangalore has become unsafe for people especially younger generation of both female and male students. These incidents are frequently happening without any fear of anybody because our judiciary system is not being properly and laxity attitude of our local elected MLAs,MPs and district in-charge.
When these things are happening they are sitting like dumb puppet without taking any action on the trouble shooters I mean goons. They don’t want interfere in the fear of losing votes. Police department’s hands were already tied up due to the pressure from political leaders.
Now as the election dates are fast approaching, they will come and beg like anything even ready to lick our shoes with so many fabricated bundles of lies and promises. Once they win,we have to wait for another five years to see their faces.
It is a point of grave concern for what is happening now in Mangaluru city and surrounding region.Who these goons are to question to identity of girls or boys.Who has given the authority or power to attack, commit atrocities, rape, molestation etc.Shame on guys.
When we are studying, working we talk each other regardless of their religion and move out as friends, close well wishers or even relatives without thinking any bad intention. What is wrong in it.These things have started since two decades. All these problems were not there on those earlier days. Why now all of a sudden erupted. Goons think that girls are meant for only one purpose of producing children. They don’t have any other works, respect, equal rights in the society.Nowadays they are unsafe even at their homes forget about parks,Malls or any other public places.
These goons should be meted out severe punishment in such a way that they should not even think or dream about committing crimes like this. They should be beheaded like in gulf countries or sever their vital parts.
Everybody has the right to live on this earth gracefully, respectively with dignity and head up.Nobody got the right to snatch their rights, freedom, whether it is boys or girls.

When will we Indians understand that its not just a handful of politicians (be it any party) whom we have elected to represent us, who are in power for 5 years of term, are responsible for any good or bad happenings in the city or our country.

It is we citizens , who outnumber them in majority have to take care of our city or country. It is we who are responsible for everything. For cleanliness or moral policing. It is we who should change. our thinking needs to change as a whole. It is we who are answerable to our children in future. Finally, let us all say, I will change for better and the rest will follow me.

I repeatedly saying we are not safe in this country only because by the government headed by Mr.Modi.

Is it because he has no children specially girl child? well it is not the requirement. If you are a human being, you will realize the necessity to bring in Law and Order again as it is been tarnished.

Can't you hear Modij, the cries of women and girls of this country? Can you please do the survey and count how many such incidents have taken place and how girls and women are suffering in the hospital today due to the harasments of these goons. Its high time that you give strict order to the Police Dept. of this country, to be vegilent, arrest these goons and jail them. Not only this. Also start a department in the jail and give them the task of growing paddy, vegetables etc in the jail ground. Let them work and learn. Let these crops be sold in the market. Utilize this money to the families who have suffered due to them. For Modiji, stop listening to your ministers, listen to the cries of people who voted you and take action before you retire.

all we well aware that states have super power to restrain and refrain such incident or similar incident happening around &for which modi cant intervene . We are having 3 ministers and corporation of the congis govt. All these are showing the slumber of the siddu and his team regarding regaining the peace and harmony in DK & still progressing.

Law and Order need to implement for all, especially with additional secure amendments.
    1. All the Moral Policing people need to arrest whenever any incidents happened without any questions.
    2. All Groups, political parties, Religious Leaders, and local groups need to report about their involvement in Moral Policing.
    3. Every incident must be inquired by the non-local special squad and treat the culprit and keep them in jail for at least six months.
    4. Whenever the elections, political leaders visit, festivals, celebrations, and any gathering happen to prevent all these useless Moral Policing persons in home arrest or jail.
    5. Check the background history of every single person and publish in all news channels and newspapers with the photo. So every citizen will aware and watch these evil people.

    Alwyn,

Law and Order need to implement for all, especially with additional secure amendments.
    1. All the Moral Policing people need to arrest whenever any incidents happened without any questions.
    - Our police are useless. They are good for nothing and i would not expect them to protect the freedoms of individuals.

    2. All Groups, political parties, Religious Leaders, and local groups need to report about their involvement in Moral Policing.
    - There is a passive support for moral policing from the people. Sometimes you can see such type of fools in the comment section of any moral policing news article.

    3. Every incident must be inquired by the non-local special squad and treat the culprit and keep them in jail for at least six months.
    - No one will take action against moral police. whom do you expect to take actions against moral police?? is it politicians??? most of them are uncivilized baboons.... and police are their slaves.

    4. Whenever the elections, political leaders visit, festivals, celebrations, and any gathering happen to prevent all these useless Moral Policing persons in home arrest or jail.
    - Moral police do get support from politicians... especially from BJP. When pub attack happened ... politicians from BJP were defending the people who beat up girls.

    5. Check the background history of every single person and publish in all news channels and newspapers with the photo. So every citizen will aware and watch these evil people.
    - Again nothing will happen. Father of moral police, aka.. criminal politicians give them their support.

Implement and see the result and Mangalore will be great to live and to have a peaceful life.
    - Like i told you there is passive support for moral police from certain sections of public.

My suggestion is that we must shame the police for their incapability to protect the individuals rights. Politicians should be kicked from their power for their hand in supporting the moral policing groups.
