Mangaluru: Girl suffers serious burn injuries after pakoda vendor's hot oil splashes on legs

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Feb 14: A teenage girl suffered serious burn injuries after a street vendor, who was frying pakoda, was bringing hot oil towards the road, which splashed onto the girl's leg. This incident happened near central market Sunday February 11.

The unfortunate injured girl is identified as Amanda (14) daughter of Victor D'Costa, a resident of Bikarnakatta in the city.

It is said that Victor D'Costa was out with his family to the central market to buy vegetables. While returning after their shopping a lady street vendor who was frying pakoda and bhajjis at Central market, was bringing hot oil in a vessel towards  the road which splashed on Amanda's leg resulting in serious burn injuries.

Amanda's father Victor D'Costa said, "My daughter is studying in eighth grade in St Agnes and the exams are round the corner. It is doubtful that she will recover in time to attend the exams. An appeal will be made to Kavitha Sanil, mayor of the city, demanding stringent action against the street vendor and investigation into the matter,"

A complaint stands registered in this regard in the Bunder police station.

Thank you for the opportunity to read your comment. Mere empathy and complacency is not going not fix the civic problems and incompetency demonstrated by the city corporation, if you and I do not speak up, many more will pay the prize for negligence.

Mrs. Mayor, where are you now.....skill games, massage centres have been raided, but these kind of street vendor's activities are not able to stop by you, why?

If you go to market road, full of street vendors are surrounded, even no space to park vehicle there. Where is your Swaccha Bharat mantra...

why you have not taken strong action on them? any influence or some kind of benefits are getting from them? your action to the public grievances must be executed immediately otherwise it is very difficult to convert into Smart City. Jaago mangalorians jaago.

To all those who have raised their voices in this forum to hold the city corporation authorities responsible, my heart felt thank you! Fundamental safe guards must be enforced in the conduct of businesses where the safety of innocent citizens is in question. Hopefully something good will come out of this incident. It is a far cry, No one is politicizing this issue.

    For all.

Mangalore city corporation officials are held responsible.
why street vendors all licences holders like bakery; hotels , and food sellers are allowed to cook in front of the shop and beside the road footpaths. what about the rules and regulations of MUDA and MCC.
Recover the compensation from corrupt officers of Health section MCC.
MAYOR Madam, Please act against this

There has been an increase in roadside food truck vending in the United States, with it incidents of critical injuries and deaths caused by propane gas explosion used for these operations, all this despite stringent regulations and fire safety inspections etc., Permits for these businesses are issued only after the vendor complies with safety requirements such as fire extinguishers, safe grease removal etc.,

The horrific incident involving a young lady in Mangalore who is disfigured for life is a classic example of callous disregard and disrespect for the lives of fellow citizens. Accident be that as may, the carelessness of the vendor is tantamount to severe penalty and compensation. The authorities owe basic safety to the citizens rather than taking pride in raiding the brothels and casinos in the city.

Its an accident and vendor should not be punished for her un intentional act. Let the authorities fine her for her negligence, but putting her behind bars will be in human act. Request the father and child to forgive her and move on.

These vendors also use illegal gas cylinders and pressurized air stoves. Gas cylinders are mostly used with Industrial type pressure regulator which does not fit properly...... action should be taken by city municipal authorities.......it might sound a bit harsh on poor Street sellers but it may be unsafe in case of an untoward incident occurs.

    Anseema,

What harm did Kavitha Sanil done to you ? Because the Mayor is so strict, the street vendors are a bit careful, Else, like this pakoda maker, there could have been spillage of pollutants everywhere.

There could be an explanation for the present spillage which we got to know only because it caused injuries to the girl - many more may have gone unnoticed.

Doing a pakoda business is not that easy and every foreign return can come from Dubai and start Pakoda business.. unless you r lucky. and Pakoda's are tasty.

    Mr. Victor D'Souza,

Please pour pure honey on the area where the burn wounds/blisters appear. Top the honey with powder salt. Please don't think that this will cause further burning, on the contrary, the wounds will slowly shrink, even the blisters will dry without breaking/opeining.

This is a tried remedy. The area will not show any black marks after healing, the skin will come back to its original colour. Please trust me, I have used it on me myself.
