Mangaluru: Kavita Trust celebrates legacy of A T Lobo with quiz, poetry competition

Mangaluru, Feb 5: In fond rememberance of renowned Konkani writer, the late Apollo Thomas Lobo, popularly known as A T Lobo, a unique programme of quiz and poetry recitation competition was held at Don Bosco hall by Kavita Trust in association with A T Lobo Foundation on Sunday, February 4.

The programme began with the dignitaries offering floral tribute to the portrait of the late A T Lobo.

Addressing the gathering, Alice Lobo, president of A T Lobo Foundation said, "A few years ago, family members, friends and fans of A T Lobo thought of keeping alive the legacy of the writer and hence 'A T Lobo Foundation' came into existence. This foundation aims to publicise the literature among today’s generation. We have also celebrated ‘A T Lobo Day’. And, here we are conducting this unique programme not only with an intention of organising competition, but also to keep alive the legacy of A T Lobo."

Melvyn Rodrigues, founder-president of Kavita Trust said, "A T Lobo is very popular in Konkani world for his novels, dramas and 'shayari' type of poems. He is one among the five Pandavas of Konkani literature. Being a very simple and calm person, he won the hearts of his companions. We had many good memories with him. He had something unique in his writings. It is very essential to teach his literature and lifestyle to the next generation. Kavita Trust and A T Foundation are undertaking this duty from the past few years.”

The poetry recitation competition was judged by poets Andrew L D'Cunha and William Pais and Celine teacher evaluated answer papers of the quiz competition.

Sarah D’Souza from Moodubelle bagged the first prize, Roshan Sequira and Rohan D’Souza won the second and third prize respectively. Prem Moras, Favina Crasta, Patsy Monteiro, Angaline Glanita D’Souza and Preethi Martha D’Souza were awarded the consolation prizes.

Senior Konkani writer CGS Taccode distributed the prizes to winner.

Simon Noel Lobo, convenor of the programme welcomed the gathering. Averyl Rodriguez, secretary, Kavita Trust, and Alwyn Pinto were present.

There were participants from Nirkan, Kayyar, Bela, Derebail, Kulshekar, Nithyadhar Nagar, Paldane and other places.

    A T Lobo's literary work is phynominal and excellent.
    Hardly any one can match his unique style.
