Bahrain: Young talents shine at Konkani Kutam annual competitions

Bahrain, Jan 29: The annual Konkani singing and elocution competitions of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain were held the Papillion Restaurant party hall on January 26.

In its endeavor to promote and keep Konkani language and culture alive in the heart and minds of people from the costal Karnataka, the the competition hosted by Konkani Kutam, Bahrain for children, presently in its 17th year, saw 34 children contesting. The participation has been increasing year after year.



The competition was spearheaded by Ronald Fernandes, Stany D’Souza and Sanjay Sequeira as the event coordinators and was ably compered by Rufus Baretto. In the absence of Henry D’Almeida, the convenor, Ronald Fernandes, the event coordinator in his message mentioned that Konkani Kutam Bahrain was proud to promote Konkani language and
culture in Bahrain from its inception.

Both the singing as well as elocution competition comprised of three categories of 4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years.

2nd Runner up - Reeve D’ Souza

Age Group 8-12 years

Winner - Delisha Fernandes
1st Runner up - Reuben Lobo
2nd Runner up - Alston Fernandes

Age Group 12-18 years

Winner - Orville Sequeira
1st Runner up - Ayona Rodrigues
2nd Runner up - Lareena Quadros

Elocution

Age Group 4-8 Years

Winner - Reshel D’Souza
1st Runner up - Alvia Veigas
2nd Runner up - Ruth D’Mello

Age Group 8-12 Years

Winner - Ziona Franco
1st Runner up - Delisha Fernandes
2nd Runner up - Alston Fernandes

Age Group 12-18 Years

Winner - Sujal Vaz
1st Runner up - Rowyn Fernandes
2nd Runner up - Reevan D’Mello

Winners were given away cash prizes and trophies. Consolation prizes were handed over to all participants.

The singing competition was judged by popular chorister and singer Richard Pais, popular Violin, Guitar and singer Menino Fernandes and popular compere of live shows, dancer and singer Renita Pinto.

The elocution competition was judged by popular public speaker and former area governor at Karnataka Club Toastmaster Bahrain Joseph Andrade, popular public speaker of toastmasters and a long resident of Bahrain Philomena D’Souza and another popular public speaker of toastmasters and president of WMC Toastmasters Roshini Pinto.

Sanjay Sequeira rendered the vote of thanks. A sumptuous buffet dinner was served by Papillion Restaurant to everyone present.

    Indian children of today in the Gulf region are smart and enterprising. They appreciate all the efforts exerted by their parents in giving them the best of education under various circumstances so that when they complete their High School they will plan their further education either in the Western world or back in India where they will adjust themselves well.

    Give them the very best of opportunity to come forward and take part in whatever social or intellectual activities so that they render the best of satisfaction to their parents and their community. Give the children the best of support by filling the audience and giving the kids the gallop that they deserve so richly. Time will run faster than we think, and our children will outgrow and move forward their own life.

    Best of luck to all those who are behind the Konkany Khutam activity in Bahrain.
