Mumbai, Jan 21: Mangalurean Janet D'Souza has been appointed general secretary of All India Mahila Congress.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has approved the appointment of Janet D'Souza and Bismita Gogoi as general secretaries of the All India Mahila Congress, the news agency UNI reported.

Janet D'Souza has earlier served as the vice-president of the Maharashtra State Minority Commission, and as president of the women’s wing of Mumbai regional Congress committee. She had also been appointed Congress party observer for constituencies in Karnataka.

Janet who hails from Kirem near Kinnigoly in Mangalore, is the daughter of senior Congress leader Celine D’Silva who was the state finance minister in the cabinet of Vasant Dada Patil and later tourism and social welfare minister in Shivajirao Nilangekar’s ministry. Janet worked as teacher and later as principal in Little Flower English School at Ghatkopar founded by her mother. Her husband Lawrence D’Souza was vice-president of the Bombay Catholic Sabha and national secretary of All India Catholic Union.

Let us be very fair here. Why dont we select candidates on merit basis in Cong. For sure many able and capable ladies may have been sidelined to accomodate this individual. This sounds like new generation bollywood star kids who by default become 'stars'.

I dont get your logic. With all due respect to Mrs Dsouza, Just because Mrs, D'souza is appointed you say Cong is going to win and it will revive, it will win back all the 16 states?

One should be Indian first. Not the outward tag, the so called religion tag. Bringing the names of Hindus, Muslim, Christians, are not at all good.

Religion is opium to society, which only divides people.

Definitely not from Oscar. She is from Mumbai and worked for Maharastra Congress. Might only the roots from Mangalore. Definitely this assignment is for the loyalty and commitment for the party.

When one is efficient, having leadership quality, then, recommendation will not required, even in political parties.
