Beltangady: 33-year-old mother, 5-month-old baby die in accident at Madanthyar

Beltangady, Jan 20: In a tragic incident, a young woman and her five-month-old baby died in a ghastly accident at Madanthyar here on Saturday January 20.

The deceased have been identified as Archana (33) and her baby daughter Aashi. Sources said that they died on the spot.

Archana's husband Jagadish, and niece Vaishnavi (14) who were also in the car sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to hospital.

The accident took place on the national highway when a lorry rammed into the car Archana and others were travelling in.

The family is from Bajal in Mangaluru, sources said. They were returning home after attending a party when the accident took place.

Jagadish runs his graphic designing firm called 'Ultra Design' at Kudroli and had earlier worked as a page designer for a Kannada newspaper.

Punjalkatte police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    Im in a shock still.... I lost my life's best friend Achu(Archana). She informed me that going with family to her hubbys friend's native at Ujire. Since after she blessed with a baby girl, they arranged party. I came to know only when i opend my Daijiworld app As routine i do, i couldn't even believe this could happen with Archana...
    So bold.... Friendly... Smiling always....
    I lost my best friend of my life....
    Rest in peace Achuuu..... Miss you...

    Speed driving thrills but kills too. Impatient for few seconds, rash driving, lack of concentration, driver using mobile etc are the few main reason for so many accidents.

    Some drivers who try to overtake other vehicles, try to overtake them in hurry when the vehicle in front slow down on a curve even though it is blind spot.

    It looks to me that whoever survived were probably sitting in the front & wearing the seat belt. Infant must have been in mother's lap at the back seat. Even in the middle east it's not compulsory for passengers in the rear seat to wear seat belt. Also rear facing child seat would have saved the infant. It doesn't cost much but saves lives. Even in the middle east only one type of child seat is used which is front facing unlike here where 3 types rear facing for the infants, front facing with side protection for the little children & booster seat for grown up children up to 12. Also fix the child seat in the middle portion of the rear seat which is where the child is most protected. I advise all the parents who have car to follow the above advice.

    Since July 2017 it has been made compulsory in the UAE for all passengers to wear a seat belt. Children aged 4 and below need to wear a car seat. No overloading of cars can be done and kids below the age of 10 are not allowed to sit on the front seat.

    Very unfortunate to lose part of one's family. Car appears to be in the wrong lane and hit the lorry, not the other way around. Looks like the car went under the front part of the lorry. Wear your seat belt.. It will help save your life

    How seat belt can save lives in this accident?
    Here it shows clearly, this accident happened in a bid to overtake another vehicle. One should be careful while overtaking. Should also know when to overtake.

    It takes a fraction of a second to put our lives at risk. The driver was overtaking without studying vehicles coming from opposite side. On our roads that have provision for just one vehicle to come and one to go, overtaking from behind a heavy vehicle is too dangerous. The same rule applies to pedestrians while crossing road too.

    RIP mother and child and speedy recovery to the injured. May God grant solace to the grieving.

    Horrible ,sad,and heartwrenching.Poor child was hardly in this world and lorry driver didnt allow it to live here.Need of the hour is to bann these lorrys from normal traffic and allot them a different line.Otherwise they fly on the road, all rules are neglected.Many bikers have lost their life,what more ,now this.May their souls rest in peace.Heatrfelt sympathys to the family.Hope the injured ones get well soon.

    Good idea to ban lorry from normal traffic. Or give them specified timing to travel.
    But in this case it looks to be total mistake of car driver, he is in wrong track. What could innocent lorry driver do here.

    It was the mistake of car driver, when the lorry driver saw that car is coming in wrong side he stopped the lorry and car rammed to lorry. the spot is not straight road there is small visible curve too.

    No comment. Feel pity especially five month baby.
    Putta hereafter lord will take care of you.. It proved once again a small cars is fatal on highways.
    Please don't overtake for gain some save time and try to go slow and avoid confuse heavy duty truck drivers.
