Bengaluru, Jan 17: The newly inducted office bearers of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) have been told in no uncertain terms that till the coming assembly election concludes, they should not get involved with anything other than the task and constituencies allotted to them. Party in-charge of affairs in Karnataka, K C Venugopal, has curtly told the leaders to either work for the party's success or vacate the party posts.

Addressing a meeting of new office bearers held at Sardar Patel Bhavan in the city on Tuesday January 16, Venugopal seemed miffed at the lackadaisical attitude of certain functionaries at certain point. He noted that block level office bearers are not prepared to work at booth level. He told the people present that if they are not interested in the tasks allotted to them, they are welcome to pave way for others, adding that there are enough aspirants to work in such posts. He also instructed KPCC president, G Parameshwar, to review the working of office bearers after a week and remove those who are found to be not working affectively.

Venugopal openly expressed his resentment at the large scale absenteeism of minsters at the meeting. He said that there are complaints that ministers are not properly working for strengthening party organization at the district level and warned them to put in wholehearted work in this field for the next three months.

G Parameshwar asked district in-charge secretaries of the party to train booth level agents properly. "It is disheartening to note that youth wing, backward and scheduled caste/tribe units of the party, which should be the leading organizations of our party that are expected to work for popularizing the party, are not working properly. They should work efficiently for the party in the coming election," he stressed. He also invited people to provide feedback to the manifesto committee headed by Veerappa Moily about problems nagging their respective districts. Parameshwar also said that the manifesto committee will submit the draft manifesto by the end of this month.

Speaking further, the KPCC president said on behalf of KPCC, office bearers would be deputed within a couple of days and a report from them would be sought about selection of candidates for the election. He also asked the in-charge secretaries to immediately respond whenever BJP or JD(S) make certain allegations against the state government.

At the meeting, the office bearers were informed that a feeling that coalition government would be formed is increasingly getting deep-rooted in the minds of the people. He asked the office bearers to remove this notion from the minds of the people by repeatedly laying stress on the idea that Congress will rise to power with clear majority.
