Mangaluru: Backed by mother, this 20-year-old takes on moral brigade on social media

Mangaluru, Jan 11: On Tuesday January 9, a 20-year-old girl filed a complaint at the cyber crime cell of Mangaluru city police, after religious vigilante groups circulated her picture along with a male companion from another religion on social media platforms.

For days, the picture of Madhuri Bolar along with her friends - one being a Muslim was making rounds on certain WhatsApp groups. The picture was accompanied by a message in Kannada 'Hamza Kinya is roaming around on bike with our Hindu girls in broad daylight...If he is further seen roaming around with Hindu girls, Hindu organisations must reply to him (act on him)' the message read.

Madhuri says that the out-of-context image and message came to her as a rude shock. "The selfie is almost a year old, when all of us were travelling in a bus to a camp. The picture that is making rounds has Suhas Adiga and Ganesh Bolar as well. However, the rumour mongers have targeted only me and Hamza," Madhuri, who is also the district secretary of Student Federation of India (SFI) said.

"Being the office bearer of SFI and Hamza being the joint secretary of district SFI, we along with others are required to go on such camps. They are trying to malign our image with baseless allegations as their other smear campaigns against us have failed," she alleges.

Madhuri in her complaint has identified atleast six WhatsApp groups and its users and has named two boys and girl - who were spreading misleading information and causing her psychological trauma.

Madhuri’s mother Bharathi Bolar, who accompanied her daughter while filing the complaint says she will support her daughter and feels that it’s high time the religious vigilantism should stop. Speaking to media, she said this is not the first instance when teenagers in the DK district have been harassed by religious vigilante groups. On Sunday, a girl from Mudigere also committed suicide due to moral policing. The police should take strict action against the perpetrators, Bharati stressed.

A member of CPM-affiliated Beedi workers' organisation, Bharati also suggested that parents must stand by their children if they are victims of such harassment.

Police commissioners T R Suresh has forwarded Madhuri’s complaint to city's cyber crime cell. The case has been registered at Pandeshwar police station limits.

Last week, a minor girl was targeted at the district administration run Pilikula Nisargadhama, after she was spotted in a picnic group that included a male from another religion.

If it was a girl from muslim community with a non-muslim then would they support her. They would say impose Saudi law and blah blah. So please dont use different yardrsticks. Please dont be a hypocrite. Everyone should be allowed to live his or her own life without anybody's interference.

There immoral rowdies never know what is healthy relationship except goondaism. They have never entered the college but want to dictate to the college students what to do and what not to do. Enough of this . Public should put them these immoral goons to shame.

Request police to give security to this brave girl and her family. Also all the like minded people to support her.

First of all let me thank and congratulate both Madhuri and her mother for taking such a bold step to register a complaint against jobless, anti-national elements and what you call moral policing goondas.Hats of to both. The culture of moral policing, love Jihad, targeting some girls on social media etc are started here in our coastal region recently. Earlier I mean few years there was no such nuisances in our region.
I am asking one simple question with so called Jihadi, moral policing group or torturing girls on the social media, who the hell you people to control the mass. In democratic country each and every person has got the full right to choose his options. When their parents, mentors, teachers, advisers and moreover God, whom they love and trust, believe, why they (above said people) have to interfere in others life. What is wrong with talking with boys or girls of other community when they are well protected by their parents and know their limitations.Yes,I do agree when they cross their limitations and happen to see them doing wrong things, you can call the police and inform their parents. Nothing wrong in talking with boys and girls from other communities with good intention and with brother/sister relationship or as well wisher and good friend. If anybody want to justice or help the parents, don’t interfere in anybody's life and defame boys or girls in the social media and call the parents (if you Know) or inform the police. Nobody has the right to defame, beat or harass either boys or girls/teenagers. Don’t come under the pressure of political leaders, instigators.Suppose anything happens, nobody will come to your rescue.Nobody is going to lose anything except your parents, loved ones and family members. Try to some constructive works towards your mother land rather than involving in unwanted, filthy things and rowdyism.Try to live as Good Samaritan, citizen of your country. Contribute something good from your end. Your country, nation is as good as your own mother. Worship her.

Like minded young people join hands with Madhuri Bolar to fight against the jobless and immoral ( police)goondaism of BD/VHP/RSS/SRS/HJV and also PFI, KFD and other communal groups who spread terror in the region. D.K.district needs a Police officer like SP Annamalai of Chikmaglur to curb the immoral policing and goondaism here. Home Minister of Karnataka should give a free hand to the Police officers of Mangalore.

Bravo Madhuri. We need more youth to come out in the open and speak up against these goons who are a menace to society.

They are a section of jobless and fanatic people who are trying to change the social fabric of our country. India is a SECULAR country where its citizens have right to freedom of religion and their fundamental rights. These acts are committed for vote bank.

We don't need such moral policing to be done when children have their parents to take care of them. We have cops to maintain law and order in the society at large.
The only solution is every citizen of this country should condemn such acts and uphold the secular and fundamental rights of every citizen irrespective of caste and creed.

Our police never shown any interest to bring these to books and teach them a good lesson of humanity despite of the damages they caused to the peace and harmony of mangalore.

All these happenings are the result of inaction by mangalore police department.
If Mangalore police had taken the steps bring these fake media and social media goons to ground, there would not have been any such incidents.

We need SP Anna Malai in mangalore who can take bold decisions irrespective of caste n creed. Police department its high time now to act and book all social media goons. Who are weak at their home in moral studies can start up and join moral policing.Better to visit their home and see the situation how they are supporting their parents and siblings in their daily life. i have seen some guys in our place in such organizations who are least bothered about their own family and going behind such organizations .Very sad ,but the fact.

Good job. For the first time a mother has publicly proved that its the parents who are responsible for the deeds of their children, not BD/RSS/BHP/SRS or any other group. Good job having filing a complaint.

Now, let the man involved too file a case and both complainants must seek compensation for defamation caused by circulating the false information.

Aam Aadmi have to rise against such goons otherwise this country will have another Hindu Taliban. Our liberties are at stake and no one has the right to snatch it. With Bharat Jalao Party, Indian democracy is turning into fascism. The country will be ruined unless we wake up.
