Mangaluru: Basheer succumbs to injuries, Rs 10 lac aid declared; slogans raised against Palemar

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Updated

Mangaluru, Jan 7: Basheer, who was attacked by four assailants four days back, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, January 7.

Basheer (47) was assaulted with lethal weapons on the night of Wednesday January 3 at Kottara Chowki allegedly in retaliation for the murder of Deepak Rao at Katipalla on the same day.

Basheer, who battled for life for four days in a private hospital, breathed his last on Sunday morning at around 8.30 am.

The police subsequently made arrests relating to the case. The persons arrested for the assault are, Sandesh, Dhanush, Shreejith and Kishan.

Out of the four arrested, two are residents of Padil in Mangaluru, one belongs to Manjeshwar and one is from Kasargod in Kerala.

It is learnt that all the four accused have criminal background and were involved in the attack on two persons at Adyar during chief minister Siddaramaih’s visit in July 2017. The attack on Basheer was an act of retaliation for the murder of Deepak Rao in Katipalla, even though the assailants had no enmity with Basheer, police said.

No funeral procession

Meanwhile, Basheer's family members have decided not to conduct funeral procession and bury him quietly at the mosque cemetery. Only close relatives are allowed to visit Basheer's home to view the body. The public will be allowed to pay last respects at the time of funeral at the mosque.

Basheer's son got a job in Abu Dhabi just a few days ago. Sources said that he is unable to attend the funeral due to visa issues.

On behalf of the family members, MLA Mohiuddin Bava is in close touch with the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi to get help Basheer's son. Bava said that he has also contacted NRI entrepreneur Dr B R Shetty to intervene in the issue. If there is any hope of resolving the issue, the family members may wait for his return, if not they will go ahead with the funeral.

ADGP Kamal Pant visited the hospital where Basheer passed away, but did not speak to the media.

Police commissioner T R Suresh told reporters about the family's decision to not hold funeral procession and said that the police have made all arrangements to maintain law and order.

Rs 10 lac aid

Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil too visited the hospital and declared Rs 10 lac aid for the bereaved family.

Minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader who also visited the spot expressed condolences to the family and said, "This is a very sad incident. Basheer was attacked by miscreants after the murder of Deepak at Katipalla and now he has breathed his last. Basheer was a very good person who was never involved in any illegal activity or anti-social acts.

"The state government will give Basheer the same amount of compensation (Rs 10 lac) as announced for Deepak," he added.

Anger at Krishna Palemar

Former minister Krishna J Palemar also visited the hospital, but the angry crowd that assembled at the hospital did not allow him to speak to the media.

The people who had gathered shouted slogans that they would not allow politics in the name of Basheer's body. Some even shouted 'go back' slogans against Palemar.

Police then intervened and controlled the mob. Palemar then left the spot with police protection.

Two precious, innocent lives were lost. Two innocent, precious lives. The grieving mother of late Deepak will grieve her whole life and the mourning widow of late Basheer and her kids will shed tears and grieve for their whole lives. Kids will grow fatherless. The desolate mother will stare into horizon to find answer. The children fondly remember their loving dad and miss him in their lives.

Who benefited from this misfortune wrought upon the innocent families, who were just struggling like common people, to make ends meet? After this double tragedies, I wonder, if peace and sense would prevail in the most advanced and educated land called Dakshina Kannada. The land of swaying palms and the gentle waves lapping the shores, is in the grip of madness. Absolute madness. I commend the family of Basheer for not insisting on taking the dead body in procession. They humbly and faithfully followed the values and teachings of Islam. The right of dead body is not to be taken in procession. The right of dead body is to be buried as soon as possible. in absolute peace.

I urge people with folded hands, that hate will wreak havoc in our lives. Hate will not bring happiness. The purveyors of hate are not harbingers of hope. Hate won't bring anything but destruction.

    Let peace prevail.

Again same very sad story like Deepak. The person was living very cordially with all people irrespective of religion and recently chose Mangalore to make a living. But some barbaric people have killed him.

Let us pray his soul rest in peace and give strength to his family to bear this loss.

This kind of barbarism is giving bad name to Mangalore. Police has completely failed to maintaining law and order. Goondas and murderers are having a free run. Political parties are only busy in scoring politically. People should be very careful and should not fall prey to this.

Two hate related (political) killings in spate of a week. Salute daijiworld in representing both of their family’s plight. Hope district administrators also were quick to release similar quantum of releif amount. Although , I don’t see the point as Deepak is a Brahmin and does not belong to a significant voter base. As per one news channel report he was not Brahmin Rao, but they have non-vegan diet just like other people who don't belong to the upper caste.
But the issue should be not about their caste but human beings getting slain for some political gains by some fringe groups supported by some parties.
Unless people rise up against these groups & their mentors these heinous crimes will continue to haunt all innocent law abiding citizens irrespective of their caste or religion for no fault of theirs.

    @ Rajesh,

Of course I am a proud Hindustani as much as or no less than anybody…,

To answer your question.., my only point is that…, I am PAINED to see the DEGENERATION of the VALUES of real Hinduism in the hands of politicians., It is sad to see now a days the pontiff’s come open in the public (instead of attracting people towards good deed by sitting inside the revered place/temple/mutt) and share the dais alongside politician and giving call to the people to save Hinduism, by doing so it gives a tacit understanding to the innocent Hindus, that politicians are more powerful than Lord Almighty/Brahma (it is nothing but openly exhibiting the discord of their divine power & faith) to say the least it appears they have faith in politicians more than faith in Lord God Almighty/Brahma…,

The father of our nation Shri Mahatma Gandhiji fought the freedom fight against Britishers on the principles / ethos & tenets of Hinduism.., like “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma, Vasudhaiva Kutumbam.., & Sarva Dharma Samabhava…” and based on these principles Hindustan’s constitution was Authored by Shri Bharat Ratna Late Dr BR Ambedkarji.., Any politician or the self-proclaimed Saviors of Hinduism who don’t vouch & acknowledge these two Tall Hindustani’s, for one or the other reason, has to introspect themselves to know more about their Hinduism…, is it REAL Hinduism or FEKU Hinduism..,

Now tell me what is wrong in expressing views about REAL Hinduism vs FEKU Hinduism…, anyway your question made me to find a solace that at least I am successful in drawing your attention about Hinduism..,

Many a times i have asked you one question. That is very simple. There is no Bajarang Dal, VHP, RSS ,any sangh, honobbing preiests with politicians to pollute the minds of HIndus. If they were practising Hindus perhaps they were following the principles or virtues you extoll. having practised puritan or unpolluted Hinduism. they should have been endeared to other communities. this has not happenned at all. they live in a constant fear. they do odd menial Jobs and are never seen at par with other mainstream religion prevailing there. There were about 25 % Hindus in pakisthan at the time of Partition but less than 2% now. What could be the possible reason. Hope you dont dodge this. Finallly do You think Radical hindusim the only problem in this country? I am not a supporter of radical hindusism as i am an atheist or you can say an agnostic to be precise.

Bar council should take an immediate decision that no lawyer should take up any case of the murderers of Deepak and Basheer. No political leaders should interfere in these cases.Police officers should be given free hand to curb such baberic incidents by some rowdies, goondas belonging to any religion or outfits. All these murderers should be booked under goonda act, no bail should be granted at any cost.
Look at the poor mother an brother of Deepak and also the wife and children of Basheer. All leaders who instigate, provoke the young boys by their poisonous speeches should be arrested and put behind bars whether he is a big leader of any religious group. So also police should be given full freedom to encounter the jobless goondas and rowdies. All the murderes of Deepak and Basheer should be given death penalty without much delay. It should be a lesson to the young goondas and jobless rowdies. Religious and political leaders stop filling poison in the young minds of our boys.Let Police do their job.

Whether its Deepak or Basheer, Parents have lost their Sons, Wives have been made widows, Children are fatherless. Think about the misery . Who gains??
Its the time for all to understand that someone cares for God/Religion, will never dare to resort to these kind of actions. Its now people's turn to understand and stop supporting any morchas or dharnas organised on the coffins of these souls.

I would have click agree 1000 times if could have. Keeping criminals behind the bars for the lifetime or Giving immediate death penalty will be the only solution to make our society livable for common people. In both murders, all the accused are from the criminal background, having serious cases and out on bail. what a terrible system we have?

People let criminals and goons grow and treated them as protectors of the faith. Right wing, left wing, youth wing 100's religious and political outfits are there nothing could save innocent lives. They just applied venom on thoughts of youth. Someday they kill someone or get killed by someone. Do we really need them? 100 Rao's and Basheer's died we just blame each other and forget.
