Constitution comment: Activists protest against Pejawar Swamiji; complaint filed

Mysuru, Nov 26 (DHNS): A group of progressive thinkers and activists on Sunday staged a protest in front of the main stage (Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Vedike) of the 83rd Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Maharaja College Grounds here, condemning the demand by Pejawar seer Vishweshateertha Swami seeking amendment to the Constitution.

The octogenarian seer, during his speech at Dharma Sansad in Udupi, demanded that the government amend the Constitution to do away with special provisions for minorities in order for equality in the society, and to protect cows.

The agitating activists raised slogans against Pejawar seer.

Dr Meenakshi Bali said, "Pejawar seer's statement is against the principles of Democracy. He (seer) does not believe in pluralistic society. He is misleading the people by spreading lies."

The seer is trying to reestablish the Chaturvarna (Varna system). It is unfortunate that the Dharma Sansad, chaired by Pejawar seer, passes a resolution on the dead cattle, but they do not have time to discuss the assassination of rationalist Gauri Lankesh, the agitators complained.

Bengaluru: Complaint filed against Pejawar Swamiji over Constitution comment

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Nov 26: A complaint has been filed in Jnanabharathi police station against Paryaya Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, over his alleged statement relating to drafting of the Constitution of India, TV reports said.

It is alleged that during the Dharma Sansad on Saturday, November 25, Swamiji said that the Consitution of India was not drafted by Dr Ambedkar alone. "There are different laws for the majority and the minority people in the Constitution. Hence, there is nothing wrong in making amendments to the Constitution of India," he is alleged to have said.

According to reports, post-graduate students of Bangalore University have condemned the statement given by the Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji and have also registered a complaint in this regard. In addition, they have also staged a protest against the Swamiji.

However, Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji clarified that he did not call for making changes in the Constitution and that his comments had been misinterpreted. "I have the highest respect for the Constitution. I did not insult the Constitution," he said.

In A pluralistic society constitution promises rights for everyone. There should not be any privileges baesd on religion, language and caste. Equal right for everyone is a fundamental of democracy. It is not there right now and time that should be revisited.
Many items on constitution is changed and adjustments made.

Democracy does not mean the majority has free reign to repress the rights of minorities or oppress minorities as the backers of the swami claim. RSS is agitating to strip minorities of constitutional rights.

Ambedkarji reluctantly agreed to reservation in the belief that it would be discontinued ten years after the adoption of the Constitution.
Some well-to-do families getting reservation benefits, since independence . Their socio -economic status is much higher than a commoner. Still they don't give-up the benefits. If they do so their own community other downtrodden members will have better chance.

Reservation based on financial status including all sect, caste, creed and religion may be a best solution, failing which we will continue to lose best brains (Brain drain)
