Kundapur, Oct 17: In an incident which happened in front of the rural police station in the town on Monday October 16, a police constable was injured when trying to arrest a few persons accused of indulging in illegal cattle trafficking. The injured policeman, Prashanth Naganna, stands admitted into a private hospital here.

The rural police station here got information that cows wee being illegally transported from the direction of Gulvady via Basrur in the taluk. The policemen, who went into action, had planned to intercept the vehicle carrying cattle over the Gulvady bridge. But the accused succeeded in escaping from being intercepted by the police by a whisker and moved towards Kandlur via Basrur. The police personnel who were in the vehicle, conveyed information to the police station and continued the chase.

They had asked other staff at the police station to set up barricades in front of the rural police station to block the vehicle from proceeding further.

Staff of the station, Ashok and Prashanth Naganna, had erected barricades in front of the police station and awaited arrival of the vehicle. But the vehicle which reached the spot, moved ahead without stopping, by breaking the barricades. As the barricade, hit by the vehicle, flew in the air and got deposited on the knee of Prashanth Naganna, his knee cap was badly damaged. Prashanth was immediately admitted into a private hospital here. The vehicle was later found from near the Gulvady bridge. Out of 25 cattle inhumanly stuffed inside the vehicle, 11 were found dead.

A case about the incident was registered in Kandlur police station.

    OK,... interesting.
So who decides as to whether someone is lifting a cow for slaughter or just taking the cow back home for milking?
How are you going to stop the police from making arbitrary decision regarding shooting a 'cow lifter'?

    Involved in Cow theft.
    Transporting Cattle illegally.
Cows must have been collected/stolen and stored without proper care.
At least have some mercy on these animals, feed them well as you feed your hung stomach. Importantly, follow the rules & regulations laid down by the law of land.
Life should be filled with morals and human values and not always going after money, profit.

    This clearly shows inhuman act..

    1. If culprits are Muslim by NAME : They are black sheep in the community, they don't even know what is Islam and they are burden for the community and parents. (stealing is HARRAM - mistreating any animal is HARAM- selling dead animal meat is HARAM)

    2. If culprits are BPJ supporters : Treating GoMatha in such a way ?

From some of the comments look like these cows were abandoned & malnourished. We others can also assume that these cows were kept hidden by the cattle traffickers without food for a long time until it was safe to transport it thru illegal ways for slaughtering.

As per one commentator, it is ok to steal the cows and calf's for slaughtering as hungry stomachs are waiting. I wonder how many people were left hungry because of this. I strongly condemn the action of police in doing their duty honestly by trying to stop illegal trafficking.
