Mangaluru: Mayor, MLA Lobo launch development works worth Rs 5.14 crore in city

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Oct 16: MLA of Mangaluru South J R Lobo and mayor Kavitha Sanil, performed the groundbreaking ceremony of several development works at an estimated cost of Rs 5.14 crore here at Ladyhill circle on Monday, October 16.

Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo said, “Mangaluru city is developing at a fast pace. Several development works worth approximately Rs 2,500 crore have been scheduled. Smart City project is also coming up, and development under ADB and Amruth fund is also on the cards. The upgrading of Bunder port costing Rs 100 crore is also in the pipeline which may take nearly three years for its completion. Mangaluru will completely change in the next three years. Roads and drainage system in the city will also be developed. Underground cables will be installed at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore out of which Rs 10 crore has been already sanctioned.”

Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “After the groundbreaking ceremony of the development works today, foundation stone for some more development works worth Rs 5 crore will be held next week. People are frequently complaining about dilapidated roads that are filled with potholes. Tender has been already issued. If we start the road repair works now, the tar will easily come off. So I assure that once the rain stops completely, potholes will be filled and the roads will be made convenient for vehicular movement.”

Development works

Road from Maroli temple to Shanthiguri will be developed spending Rs 30 lac, Rs 60 lac will be spent for development of Ladyhill circle under premium FAR fund, and Lalbagh circle will be developed under premium FAR fund spending Rs 55 lac. Road widening works from Durga Mahal to Bokkapatna worth Rs 94 lacs under premium FAR fund, road widening and drainage system from Balmatta road to Upper Bendur road worth Rs 2.5 crore under premium FAR fund, and Ladyhill Boloor road drainage system worth Rs 25 lac will also be undertaken.

Deputy mayor Rajaneesh, chief whip of MCC Shashidhar Hegde, and corporator Sabitha Misquith and others were present.

My friends these politicians are fooling public. What were they doing in the last four years ? Now all of a sudden they started launching many development projects and the reason is upcoming elections. Why they are not shifting service bus stand to Pumpwell ? Why not build a flyover in Nantoor? When they are going to complete Pumpwell flyover? Whatever little work they have done is very shoody and not properly planned. Launching of the projects will go on till the election and then it will be forgotten :(

We boast about an international airport but the road to the airport is in a very bad state in fact while reaching the airport there are such potholes 3ft by 3ft that is the state of the road to the international airport what a disgrace. What about the Bendorewell road, the road leading to the Bunder old port is also in a bad state after the Gateway hotel the road is in a very bad state, the narrow lanes are concreted. Now ready for some good digging to lay some cables. The road leading to Mangaladevi temple also in a bad state at Cascia. Really surprising about the rains affecting the repairs by the time they start the works the next year's rainy season will start, what a excuse.

It is good to see our M.L.A Mr. J.R. Lobo taking considerable interest to upgrade the Port City of Mangalore.

I would however like to point out that the foot-paths in Mangalore City also need urgent attention. Whereas motorists have free access to roads, the pedestrians find it difficult to walk on the sides of the roads where there are no footpaths.

I have no doubt that MLA Mr. Lobo and the Mayor Kavitha Sanil will pay due attentions to this need.

Dear Office bearers of Mangaluru City Corporation ,

I wish to bring to your notice of garbage dumping on the Lokayya Shetty Road formerly known as Warehouse road . From Ballalbagh circle to other end joining Kulur ferry road ,tere are three location on this road where garbage is dumped by local residents . Even when confronted they ask us a question like -- who are you to tell us .

One dumping place is right in front of a temple , which is adjacent to Govt school.

I wish your officials can make a visit on this stretch of the road and create awareness / put signage and refrain people from dumping garbage.

    Thankyou.

Lobo Maam and Yogesh Bhat Maam are 100% same. Non corrupt, non controversial and of not much use to the constituency.
We need aggressive and dynamic leaders who work day in and day out like Kavita Sanil, Moihudeen Bawa etc.

It is unfair to blame only JRL and Mayor for the shoddy road work done for the last several years. As long as there is kick backs to babus and politicians... no quick relief to pot hole filled roads. If there is strict supervision on road construction and repairs, this problem is bound to re-surface.
