Abu Dhabi: Toastmasters World Champion Manoj Vasudevan enthralls crowd

By Zenifer Khaleel

Abu Dhabi, Sep 27: World Champion of Public Speaking Manoj Vasudevan, on Friday, September 22, presented a two hour interactive session at the India Social Center, Abu Dhabi.

The session was hosted by Toastmaster Division H and India Social Centre, and opened to a packed audience who were glued to their seats till the end. The crowd comprised of toastmasters from various chapters, and selected invitees. There were also attendees from the Bureimi club that belong to the neighbouring state of Oman.

The session commenced with the screening of Vasudevan’s winning seven minute speech at Vancouver this August, titled ‘Pull Less, Bend More'. He used the analogy of a cupid’s arrow to tell people that maintaining relationships was more important than holding on to egos.

This was followed by a very comprehensive interview conducted by toastmaster Loyola Pinto where Vasudevan explained his journey from an introverted ‘techie’ to an enigmatic orator, just by the power of perseverance and dedication. He stated that he attributed his success to constant improvisation and self-introspection.

“There is always something left to learn even if you are a world champion,” he said “It is the little things that make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.”

Toastmaster Sunil Kottarathil, district 105 director of Toastmasters, said that Vasudevan managed to boost the confidence of upcoming orators and speakers in the audience by his friendly demeanor and integrity in his interactions.

Rajeevan Maroli who welcomed the gathering said that ISC was honored to host the World Champion of Public Speaking.

“We were privileged to meet, greet and interact with Manoj Vasudevan, that too within one month of being crowned a champion. The interaction was very engaging and inspired each and every one of the 250 plus audience. It gave us hope that we too can reach our pinnacle if we dream big and strive to realize those dreams,” said Toastmaster Althaf MS, director of the division H Toastmasters.

The session concluded with felicitations for Vasudevan by patron of Toastmasters Dr Sultan Al Haji, Seema Shetty, ISC acting president Jayachandran Nair, general secretary MA Salam, literary secretary Rajeevan Maroli, district 105 director Sunil Kottarathil, division H director Althaf MS. The programme was anchored by past division governor Loyola Pinto. Club Growth director of divison H Ceanlia proposed the vote of thanks.

Indians all over the world, particularly in the United States as well as in the Middle East, have taken an active role in the movement of Toastmasters. Establishing new Clubs, creating new Club Officers once a year or twice a year, creating so many Orientation and Training programs, participating in many Semi=annual as well as Annual Conferences, Indians have always come forward with a "can do" attitude filled with keen enthusiasm and willingness to make things happen in a Community or a Corporation.

We are proud that within two years from now we shall have an able Indian to leader at the helm of the Toastmasters Organization as our International President. Having witnessed so many active Indian leaders with selfless attitudes coming forward to take so many leading assignments in Toastmasters world, several hundreds of new clubs have emerged all over the world where there is an evidence of an Indian hand and also an Indian brain behind.

India will benefit a great deal from our active involvement in the movement of leadership enhancements that will enable the world to realize that we have a deep commitment in what we are obliged to give back to the society and the world. This willing attitude will boost our National image and will enable the world to appreciate our sense of duty and commitment.
