Kasargod, Sep 12: A student of sixth standard collapsed in a school at Uppala and passed away in a hospital in Mangaluru later. The incident came to light on Tuesday September 12.

The deceased has been identified as Ayesha Mehennisa (11).

Though the exact cause for the death is not yet ascertained, it is said that the girl had epilepsy.

There are also allegations that a teacher subjected her to corporal punishment two weeks ago for writing a wrong answer in an exam. However, her family has not lodged any complaint about it.

The locals and the girl's relatives suspect that she died due to the corporal punishment, and hence, the district administration has ordered for a post-mortem to get to ascertain the cause of death. The department of education has ordered an investigation.

The post-mortem will be done at Pariyaram Medical College.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death.
